Jockey Quotes - Light Fingers Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $200,000 TAB Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

Hugh Bowman (Fangirl): “I didn’t anticipate that happening (finding the favourite’s back on straightening). I didn’t know where James was going to be in the run. I just wanted to ride my filly, particularly being first up with a vision of this filly stretching out over longer distances.

“I wanted to ensure her last furlong was her best and that she settled in a good rhythm early. It panned out beautifully for me. I didn’t have to make any rash decisions. It did get a bit squeezy at the 200m mark because when Tommy went for home on Jamaea, she is a class horse, and I thought I’m not going to sprint with these two.

“They both hit their top and I was still there lingering. When they peaked on their runs my filly was there to capitalise. She is going to improve beautifully from this run and it spells out for a good prep.”

Fangirl wins the Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick

James McDonald (Espiona): “Super.”

Tommy Berry (Jamaea): “Massive run. Just when Fangirl pushed me off the line at the top of the straight she dropped the bit there. I had to get after her a bit earlier than I wanted to and her run probably ended a bit earlier then but massive effort.”

Nash Rawiller (Four Moves Ahead): “I was forced to give her a little squeeze early and she didn’t relax with the blinkers on. I’d forgive her.”

Kathy O'Hara (Hinged): “Very strong return from her. Obviously going to be better suited over a bit further but happy with that.”

Jason Collett (Startantes): “Fantastic run. I had Fangirl’s back into the straight. The split opened to the inside but it was probably just going better than I was. We may have just peaked late but very good run.”

Rachel King (Arcaded): “Great run. Probably just peaked a 100m from home.”

Sam Clipperton (Heresy): “Lovely first up run.”

Tim Clark (Tilianam): “Just needs a drop back in grade to get her confidence up.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Zouzarella): “Really good run. Raced a little bit fresh without cover but she ran well.”

Chad Schofield (Jal Lei): “She ran better than it looked. Just couldn’t build into the straight when I needed to, was a little bit held up but when she found clear running she got going when the race was over.”

Regan Bayliss (Zetarita): “I think she is heading to the paddock.”

Josh Parr (Von Trapp): “Nice run from an impossible spot.”

Brock Ryan (Mokulua): “Has come back really well. Just looking for further now.”
