Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $1,000,000 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Royal Randwick.
Mark Zahra (Vinrock): “He’s a gentleman to ride, you can put him anywhere and I was just so happy I came up here and trialled him the other day, just to get him in behind them and have a look because he’s never been in behind them ever. So I was happy to take a trail today.
“I said to Matt, he was like ‘just find your way to come off the fence,’ and I said ‘well, it’s a Group One, they’re not just going to let me off the fence’. So the best we can do is box-seat and I’ve walked the track and I knew the fence was no good but you only had to come two or three off and I believe it’s not so bad.
“So I just waited to get my time and then he took a little while to hit his straps but when I got a head on Gai Waterhouse’s runner he dug deep. I felt like they were coming to him but he held late strongly.
“He’s a winner. He’s unbeaten and he loves winning. He’s an absolute gentleman to ride and it was a good job because they were a fair way away from him, so he couldn’t see them but he still had his head out and was having a crack. It was a good win. Well done to Matt, he’s done a great job with him.”
Vinrock wins the Inglis Sires’
Jason Collett (State Visit): “Really good run. If anything, they went up the inside late. If he was able to see it, he would have challenged it. Great run.”
Zac Purton (Buffalo): “Really good run. Obviously his lack of gate speed puts him in an awkward spot. The pace of the race between the half mile and 400m didn’t really suit him. If they went a genuine speed he would have gotten over the top of them. Further is going to be better.”
Hugh Bowman (Rivellino): “He was much more professional than he was in the Golden Slipper. The little bit of interference up the straight didn’t help him but I think he is going to be a great three year old.”
Ryan Moore (Wodeton): “He ran a good race to not be beaten far.”
Jamie Mott (Prestige Forever): “I thought he was brave. Had to do a lot of work from the outside draw. Looked the winner at the 250m. Just knocked up with the early work.”
Craig Williams (Nordic Viking): “On face value they were far too good for him. There might be some scope to see how he comes through the run.”
Zac Lloyd (Navy Pilot): “He is a lovely horse. Only got beaten a couple of lengths there. Second start too against the best two year olds in the country. A lot of improving to come with him. Still learning his craft.”
Nash Rawiller (Federalist): “His effort was terrific. Was bumped twice coming to the corner and around the home turn lost balance. He gathered himself late and hit the line. A good effort.”
Tim Clark (Bellazaine): “She was very brave. Probably been beaten a length or in that vicinity. Toughed it out really well.”
