Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $400,000 Precise Air Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Kerrin McEvoy (Celestial Legend): “He’s always promised a lot and Les (Bridge) and his team have been saying that he’s a really good horse in the making. We’ve probably been saying for a little while that we thought 1400m is going to be a sweet spot for him and hopefully a mile, so it was nice to see him do that today. It was nice to see him be in really good order and be switched on before the race. He had a good start and I said to the guys before I went out ‘the start is key.’ If he begins well and I can get in front of a few of the horses that I deemed as slower opposition, it was going to be beneficial and that’s how it worked out.
“He was bouncing in the yard which is good to see because he’s a bit of a cruisy fella. I was happy to see that and I hadn’t been on his back at the races for a little while.
“He’s been getting Les out of bed, he’s been happy with him for a while now. I must say he’s done a tremendous job with him. Les was pulling his hair out on Tuesday morning when he couldn’t get on the grass but I said ‘we’re alright, we’ll do it on the poly’. We got a bit of work into him. He’s put forward a nice showing there today.
“You’d think a mile at Randwick will suit. The penny is just dropping so I think he’s onwards and upwards towards those bigger targets now.”
Celestial Legend wins the Hobartville Stakes
Jason Collett (Encap): “No luck from the barrier. But the performance was well considering the wide run as we head toward the mile.”
Josh Parr (Les Vampires): “Very good performance. Led up and showed a nice turn of foot in ground that he didn’t really like. Good effort.”
Tim Clark (Ganbare): “Pleased with his return. He is going to build into his prep nicely over further distance.”
Nash Rawiller (Tom Kitten): “I thought he went great. A little bit out of our ground today. Didn’t get a lot of luck in the first furlong. I think he hit the line well enough to suggest he will be very competitive over the mile which is where he is heading.”
Regan Bayliss (Raf Attack): “He will improve off the run fitness wise and up in trip.”
Tommy Berry (Ducasse): “It is the only time he has drawn well and the inside is not the place to be. Just didn't suit him today.”
Tyler Schiller (Heman): “I thought he was good. Probably not there fitness wise yet or at his ideal trip. He showed a bit of promise from the 300m to the 100m and then just got a bit tired late.”
Sam Clipperton (Ceolwulf): “Very pleased with him. He is a lovely horse going forward, particularly as he works up to those classic 3yo distances.”
Dylan Gibbons (Flying Trapeze): “Didn’t have a lot of room to work with. Probably hasn’t gone as bad as it looks.”
Zac Lloyd (Cafe Millenium): “Horse has come back really well. There was a little bit of scrimmaging on the bend. Probably didn’t help him as he became a little bit unbalanced. He ran on nice enough.”
James McDonald (Fukubana): “He is a really nice horse. Still learning his craft but he did a good job sticking on really well today. He can only improve.”
