Jockey Quotes - Concorde Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $1,000,000 Southern Cross Group Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick.

Nash Rawiller (I Am Me): “She was amazing, wasn't she? I was surprised, because I really dove through that gap, came off Way To The Stars back, and as soon as I produced her, I thought, I'm in trouble, because, you know, obviously, Bella Nipotina was coming; it was pretty quick at that point.

“I thought she'd out-tough me, but I loved the character of my horse. She picked up and really just wasn't going to lay down.

“Way To To The Stars has been more relaxed this prep, which we've been trying to sort of get him to do, he’s a horse with a genuine cruising speed, which we like to use to his advantage, but he’s actually settling better now.

“I’ve got no doubt if when I rode him last time, if it was 1000m, he wins on the bridle and I’ve always felt that he could do what he just did in a good race like this.

“She’s one that’s really put the writing on the wall for a big race this year.”

Craig Williams (Bella Nipotina): “Not the result like always but most importantly the way that she performed, the way she went and the way she initially felt like came through the race really well she is in for a great preparation.”

Rachel King (Way To The Stars): “Massive step up for him. Gee he is tough and all heart.”

James McDonald (Giga Kick): “More than adequate run. He jumped really well, travelled comfortably in a midfield position. He gave me a 150m sprint then levelled out pretty quickly after. Obviously sub-32 sectionals late which was pretty hard to do first up so very good run first up.”

Jay Ford (Private Eye): “Super return. Obviously short of a distance at his best. But he was hitting the line very nicely.”

Jason Collett (Aft Cabin): “Settled back. Don’t know if he liked being boxed in underneath and through them. Felt like he had more than what he offered.”

Tommy Berry (Remarque): “Just unlucky. Got caught behind the wrong horse. He took us out of the race the whole way. Forgive run.”

Nick Heywood (Bandi's Boy): “He went really well today. 1200m next start will be spot on.”

Tyler Schiller (Dragonstone): “Great return from him. He had to do it a bit tough out wide. I thought he toughed it out really well. Especially going that time being out on the track.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Red Card): “I thought she ran fantastic. First up run, 1100m will be her sweet spot. Good stakes race wins in her.”

Dylan Gibbons (Moravia): “He has come back in terrific order. For a day where they are not making up ground, he has made up good ground late.”

Reece Jones (Le Melody): “Enjoyed a nice little run in behind the speed. When they quickened he wasn’t up to scratch.”
