Jockey Quotes: Canterbury Stakes

Find out what the beaten jockeys made of their runs behind Le Romain in the Group One Canterbury Stakes.

Glyn Schofield (Le Romain): "He probably put a neck on me but my fellow wasn’t going to lie down, he just really enjoyed. The fight is what he loves."

Tommy Berry (Chautauqua): “What he showed me today is that he will relax enough to go up to a Doncaster if they want to take that path with him. He wasn’t handling the track very well early. I couldn’t put him out of his comfort zone, I had to let him travel. You can see when he started to get confident in the going because that’s when he really picked up ground late. He’s back.”

Blake Shinn (Hauraki): “The horse ran really well, he got beat two-and-a-half lengths. He can only benefit from that run and will be better over further. I think he is in for a really good campaign.”

Kerrin Mcevoy (Music Magnate): “He just raced a little bit free with me in the early and middle stages of the race, it just had him a little bit empty late because of it.”

Joao Moreira (Japonisme): “He was a bit unlucky turning from home, the leader of the race started to drop back on my face but even though when I got away from that horse and started to pick up, he just starting sinking in the ground. He just didn’t handle it.”

Tye Angland (Too Good To Refuse): “He didn’t really handle the track along the back and he just couldn’t quicken. It was a good run considering.”

Josh Parr (Ugo Foscolo): “Didn’t travel that well in the ground and wasn’t able to set a speed that I thought I would be able to. He ended up having to take up a pretty good field into the straight on that sort of ground, it just didn’t suit him at all.”

Zac Purton (Impending): “He travelled into it like he was a winner, but when I let him down he was just found wanting.”
