Jockey Quotes - Canterbury Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $750,000 Toyota Forklifts Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Royal Randwick.

Tim Clark (Royal Patronage): “We went to the races first up in the spring extremely confident and he was showing all the same signs coming into this prep, but obviously he just had to elevate to a new level today, as it was obviously a very strong race.

“Once he got into his spot, the speed was lovely, he was comfortable the whole way, he did fill me with confidence throughout the race and I knew when I got into a dogfight late he was going to be there for me.

“He's a horse that's relatively new to the stable, I’m sure Gai and Adrian are still working out exactly what his right distances are, and obviously he reacts really well fresh so he's returned in really good order, he showed that he's up to this elite level, and is a beautiful horse.

“It gives me great satisfaction to win a Group 1 for Gai and Adrian.”

Nash Rawiller (Here To Shock): “Certainly didn’t let us down. Valiant effort. I think everything went pretty much to plan. We were able to take control of the race early. He gave an enormous kick and just wasn’t our day unfortunately.”

Jordan Childs (Magic Time): “Really happy with her. We had a nice run throughout. Had to wait my turn before we got clear, she sprinted hard but couldn’t get there in time. She will be better for it and look forward to next start.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Ceolwulf): “Brilliant. He feels great and looks good. For him to come back in distance and run as well as he has, in a leader dominated track with that track drying, sharp splits and closing off as well as he did, he is ready to rock and roll back to the appropriate distances.”

Tyler Schiller (Airman): “No luck today when we needed it.”

Tommy Berry (Militarize): “He is probably looking for a bit of sting out of the ground and a bit of match practice. He travelled really well for me around the corner. I wouldn’t take him off that one run, he’s been off for a year.”

Jason Collett (Celestial Legend): “I was happy with his return. He was with the backmarkers there but worked home.”

Rachel King (Encap): “Really happy with his first up run. It was a tough assignment but I think he is in for a good prep.”

Chad Schofield (Sunshine In Paris): “Extremely good run. We found a good position from a bad draw on the back of Switzerland who didn’t take us anywhere. We had to wait to go in the inside by which time the horses in front had their revs up. She was strongest late.”

Zac Lloyd (Stefi Magnetica): “She is never the easiest horse to ride. If 10 things could have gone wrong in that race, then 11 did. A line through that one.”

James McDonald (Switzerland): “He has gone good. He was put into a spot and travelled well. Just had to commit a little earlier when Stefi made her run early and just forced our hand a little bit."
