Find out what the jockeys made of their two-year-old mounts after the $160,000 G3 Fujitsu General Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.
Sam Clipperton (Best Of Bordeaux): “He is a real gentlemen to ride. First time at the races and he walked around like an old soldier. A good racing pattern, he jumped well. I was actually going to sit just off Jason Collett, they were going slow and they say let a fast horse be fast. Once I let him flow for a furlong, around the bend he actually came back under me, breathed well and got into a nice rhythm.”
“I must say he had a really good kick at the end. It was no fluke that he won because he gave me a nice feel.
“He will only keep improving. Like I said he’s got a good racing pattern, so he’d have to continue to improve to be a force to be reckoned with in the Slipper but there is no reason why he can’t. He has kicked off his career in fine style. ”
Best Of Bordeaux bolting in on debut
Jason Collett (Flashing Steel): “Good run. A bit green there. Wandered about in the straight but not bad.”
James McDonald (Great Barrier Reef): “Just showing the signs of immaturity. He’s just not ready yet.”
Brock Ryan (Mellencamp): “It is probably just a little bit much for him at the moment but will win races in time.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Rakomelo): “Good run. He will improve off that and will enjoy it over further as well.”
