Jockey Quotes - Apollo Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $250,000 The Agency Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Nash Rawiller (Think It Over): “You could tell Tommy (Berry on I Am Superman) was going to try and use his fitness to his advantage. You are in a Catch 22. I’m on the best horse who we know is certainly not wound up for this race. But he was ready to do his job.

“It’s exciting to be on him when they do that. He was more confident than me at the 600m. I was still worried what was behind us. The horse just trotted along behind them.

“He travelled like the winner. I’ve watched it before on TV after a race. May have had a scotch in my hand that night but he looks like Kingston Town coming into a race. Just a beautiful horse.”

Tim Clark (Colette): “Great return from her.”

Glyn Schofield (Special Reward): “He ran another great race today. WFA against the best horses in the country. He’s is flying.”

Rachel King (Riodini): “Good first up run. Will take benefit from it.”

Reece Jones (Sikandarabad): “Really pleased with that performance. Good first up run, hit the line well. Just getting warmed up late.”

Chad Schofield (Hungry Heart): “Great first up run. Settled midfield and then she was strong all the way to the line. Looks like she is in for a great prep when the distances get longer.”

Hugh Bowman (Maximal): “He really overdid it in the early to middle stages. He settled from the 800m but the damage was done and finished off accordingly.”

Sam Clipperton (Kolding): “Nice return in a fast run race.”

Tommy Berry (I Am Superman): “It was a tough run in the end. I didn’t want to do that much work early. Probably should have come back and taken a sit on him. It was a good effort in the end. Off one trial he is going well.”

James McDonald (Verry Elleegant): “She has come back great. Looking forward to her second up.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Icebath): “Great first up run. She will improve a ton off that.”

Jason Collett (She's Ideel): “Very sluggish in the early and middle stages. But worked home OK.”

Josh Parr (Duais): “Fantastic return. Exciting prep ahead.”
