Jockey Quotes - All Aged Stakes

He downed the Everest champ two weeks earlier, and Trapeze Artist made it three Group 1s for the season with a hard fought win.

Find out what the jockeys made of their horses’ runs in the Group 1 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Tye Angland (Trapeze Artist): “It’s a privilege to be a part of it, four rides for three Group 1 wins on him now, it’s been a hell of a ride that’s for sure.

“There were a couple of doubters but I was confident, he’s got plenty of talent and the races he has been beaten in, they’re Group 1 horses, have a look at him, he’s just a little star.”

“I said to Bert [owner] before we went out that we’ve got an Everest to win first and he told me I don’t think I have a good enough jockey and I said to him I’ll show you now.”

Jason Collett: (Le Romain): “Great run. Probably had them covered at the top of the straight but to that winner’s credit he is pretty tough.”

Corey Brown (Showtime): “He ran really well. He’s just that little bit honest and pulled a bit in the mid race but he’s run really well.”

Mark Zahra (Brave Smash): “He went awful. Something wrong with him I’m tipping cause he is a better horse than that.”

Hugh Bowman (Hartnell): “I thought he ran an excellent race. Those short course horses are a bit nippy for him but he was doing his best work late.”

Tim Clark (It's Somewhat): “Pleasing first up run. He’s going to get better as the distances increase.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Tom Melbourne): “Had a nice trip. He travelled up nicely but was one paced coming home.”

Blake Shinn (Satono Rasen): “I thought he ran credibly. He’s a horse that needs further but he’s run well.”

Brenton Avdulla (The Mission): “He ran terrific. If he learns to harness his speed a bit he will be a fair dinkum Group 1 horse. Just needs things to go his way at the moment. If he gets a wet track he will be right there.”

Damien Oliver (Muraaqeb): “He ran well. They were a bit sharp for him back from the mile but he hit the line nicely. The track is running fast so it’s hard to make ground.”
