Update on injured jockey Melanie Bolwell resulting from a from race fall at Warialda on Saturday, 8th April 2017.
Update on Saturday, 27th May 2017 Racing NSW's GM-Welfare, Maurice Logue, visited Melanie and reported she is back to her happy self with Doctors so impressed with her progress, they have allowed her to spend weekends with her family at Picton. Melanie advised she is determined to return riding and has her goal set on winning the Lighting Ridge Opal Cup and claim the opal bracelet trophy.
Update at 10am on Wednesday, 24th May 2017 Melanie has settled into the Liverpool Rehabilitation Centre after she was transferred from the Gold Coast Hospital on Friday. Melanie’s father Jason said it was nice to finally have Melanie close to their home which is located 30 minute from Liverpool. Racing NSW Welfare General Manager Maurice Logue will see Melanie this Friday afternoon and provide a further update following the visit.
Update at 3:30pm on Wednesday, 17th May 2017 Melanie's father Jason has advised Melanie will be transferred from the Gold Coast Hospital to Liverpool Hospital this Friday.
Update at 4pm on Thursday, 11th May 2017 Melanie's father Jason has advised Doctors have cleared Melanie to fly home on commercial flight provided she is accompanied by a carer which will be her mother Narelle. This now paves the way for Melanie to be relocated from the Gold Coast to Liverpool Hospital when a bed becomes available. The current waiting time for a bed is less than 2 weeks.
Update at 11am on Thursday, 4th May 2017: Melanie's father Jason has advised Melanie is now attending the gym, is able to walk and talk freely but has no short term memory. Doctors have said Melanie's recovery will take time and they will transfer her to a Sydney rehab centre when a bed becomes available. Racing NSW's Dr David Duckworth will assist with the transfer.
