Jockey Andrew Adkins was dislodged from his mount (War Baron) approaching the winning post following Race 1 at Royal Randwick on Saturday (13th April). Andrew Adkins was concussed and stood down for the remainder of the day before being transported to St Vincent's Hospital for further assessment.
[Update at 6pm on Monday 15th April]: Racing NSW's Dr Duckworth reports that Andrew is likely to be in hospital for at least a few more days. They are still waiting for a plastic surgeon to decide on what treatment will happen for his facial fractures.
[Update at 4:20pm on Saturday 13th April]: Dr Duckworth has reported Andrew Atkins has suffered an undisplaced fracture of his T3 vertebra which is stable and doesn't need surgery. He is waiting for results of scans of his face though. He is awake and conscious. Andrew Adkins father has since reported that Andrew has suffered a fractured eye socket, a fractured nose, a fractured sternum and compound fractures to his T2, T3 and T4 that won't require surgery.
