Hawkesbury Winners - Tips For Thursday 1st July

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Thursday’s Hawkesbury meeting. Selections based on a soft to heavy track.

Race 1 – 12.15PM EVERGREEN TURF HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

3. Angela Sistina has tried hard in second place at her past two starts and certainly meeting nothing stronger here. She’ll be up on the speed and perhaps coming back 100m is a plus. Go well.

Dangers: 7. Galierro caught the eye first-up from a break as he hit the line into third from well back at Newcastle three weeks ago. Fitter, handles all conditions and looks a big threat. 4. Carlisle Bay backs up from last week where he raced three wide on the speed and was the only one of them left standing as he ran third at Kembla. Racing well and capable of winning this. 1. Alvin The Bold looks an improving type and will be fitter for a first-up second at Hawkesbury in mid-June. Did have his chance but open to improvement.

How to play it: Angela Sistina WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Angela Sistina runs second at Wyong on June 17

Race 2 - 12:50PM HRC MOTEL HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

1. Amungee has her first run for Matthew Dunn and has a consistent record from her first couple of preps. Liked her trial at Randwick a few weeks back and has found a winnable race first-up. Hard to beat.

Dangers: 8. A Land Of was a month between runs when she bumped into a handy type on a heavy track here just over a week ago. If she can hold that form she’s a major player. 5. Pressita hasn’t been far away and held her ground well when placed at Wyong two weeks ago. Blinkers go back on here, she’ll be in the firing line for a long way. 2. Smarty Lee had a little support on debut at Canterbury and while no match for the winner didn’t run a bad race. Wouldn’t be surprised if he improves here.

How to play it: Amungee WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Amungee runs second in a trial at Randwick on June 8

Race 3 – 1.25PM XXXX GOLD HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

7. Rupertaar has had a couple of preps and trialled well on each occasion and she debuts after a dynamic trial win at Rosehill two weeks ago. If she can run up to that effort she will take running down.

Dangers: 2. The Maxinator is another impressive trailer making his debut. Looked good behind King Of Sparta on the grass then romped in on the synthetic on June 21. Has to be respected. 8. Syracuse was in the market in all three starts in metro maidens and restricted races earlier this year. Ran well on debut behind Hilal and was placed at her second start at Kensington. Trialled on the synthetic and should be kept safe. 9. Williams Bay won the trial on the synthetic in question and she’s been handy in her two starts to date. Worth including in the chances.

How to play it: Rupertaar WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 4 – 2.05PM BLAKES MARINE PLATE (1100 METRES)

8. Single Honor tackled a couple of strong maidens back in February and resumes as a gelding with two quite nice trials under his belt behind King Of Sparta. Has a tricky draw but at the odds is worth a look each-way.

Dangers: 5. Starboreta was a big drifter in betting at her debut and while held up for a run for a while she didn’t dash when clear. Blinkers go on so she’s worth another chance in a weaker race. 6. Beatbox was worked on a bit but hit the line well late in his latest trial at Rosehill two weeks ago. In strong stable and any market support would be significant. 9. Ticket To Anywhere is a first starter for Annabel Neasham and another that has trialled up okay. Keep in mind.

How to play it: Single Honor E/W ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Single Honor runs fourth in a trial at Randwick on June 21

Race 5 – 2.45PM ST JOHNS PARK BOWLING CLUB HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

7. Star Cherie looks close to a win after two runs back and she improved nicely into her close second at Gosford on a heavy track. Draws well and is entitled to put herself in the finish with even luck.

Dangers: 9. Stormborn was a beaten favourite first-up at Goulburn then raced wide all the way and boxed on okay at Kensington last time, just weakening late. Wouldn’t be surprised if she’s a big improver. 1. Coco Cuber is an honest type resuming with a couple of quiet trials under his belt. Handles all conditions, can be a little quirky, and is right in this. 3. Gidgee Guy chased hard behind Remlaps Gem at Scone last time to hold second. Can be in the mix here.

How to play it: Star Cherie WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Star Cherie runs second at Gosford on June 10

Race 6 - 3:20PM LIVING TURF HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

6. Pensera is coming off a maiden win but it was a strong one at Newcastle and she shapes as though she’ll appreciate the extra trip. Okay on a heavy on debut and while up in class could well be up to it.

Dangers: 3. Duke Of Buckingham is also a last start maiden winner, he was too strong leading all the way over 1500m here a few weeks back. No reason why he can’t go on with it. 2. Edge Of Darkness has had the experience out of maiden grade with an even second over the mile here at the June 22 meeting. Sure to be around the mark again 7. Majestic Wings wasn’t up to the class rise behind Wicklow at Rosehill but her previous form was honest with a string of placings in the country. Each-way hopes

How to play it: Pensera WIN ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Pensera wins at Newcastle on June 12

Race 7 – 3.55PM ELITE SAND & SOIL HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

2. Silent Tryst has found a nice race to resume in on the back of an easy trial win here a couple of weeks ago. She has a sound record, the claim helps and she’s proven okay down to a soft 7 to date. Good chance.

Dangers: 7. Indigenous won well first-up the break her maiden status then competitive in two subsequent runs. Charged late to just miss third last time and an extra 100m is a plus. Should be in the finish. 5. Agent Of Chaos was a small drifter as favourite first-up at Kembla but got the job done as she edged away late. Fitter for that and it’ll be interesting to see how she measures up. 3. Kariba was a little out of her depth when she failed at Warwick Farm last time but handy winner at Kembla before that at this level so she could easily improve.

How to play it: Silent Tryst WIN ($3.20 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Silent Tryst wins a trial at Hawkesbury on June 15

Race 8 – 4.35PM KILLAHY EQUINE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

1. Black Bolt is an up and comer who won his first two last prep before a couple of city placings up to a mile. Was a late scratching at the gates a couple of weeks ago and has trialled since. Any improvement in the track a plus, he’s the one to beat.

Dangers: 8. Adamas Prince races well on his home track and while no match for the winner here last time still hit the line nicely. No harder and he should be around the mark again. 6. Bondi Blue had his first run on a heavy track at Kembla first-up and while safely held by the winner tried hard in second place. Better for that experience, drawn well and no surprise if he’s in the finish somewhere. 5. Nicochet is one of those horses that bobs up now and then and he’s better suited here than when resuming at Kensington on June 16. Wet track form is okay and he’s worth throwing into the exotics.

How to play it: Black Bolt WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Black Bolt runs third in a trial at Rosehill on June 18
