Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Hawkesbury meeting. Selections based on a good track.
Race 1 - 1:35PM MICWAY MIDWAY MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES) |
---|
12. Tokyo Lady has her first start for Nathan Doyle on the back of a couple of strong trial wins in the past month. She’s shown glimpses so far and while 1000m might ultimately be short of her best trip she’s drawn well and is clearly in good touch at the trials.
Dangers: 3. Roman Script scored a runaway trial win back in August then switched stables and scored narrowly at Wyong a couple of weeks ago. Looks to have some talent and no surprise to see him run well on debut. 8. She Conquers was placed behind a handy one on debut before failing on a heavy track Both trials back have been sharp and while drawn out she’s one of the chances. 7. Isla D’Amore didn’t fire on debut but given some time. Hit the line well in her latest trial but that was some time ago. Check betting.
How to play it: Tokyo Lady WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
Tokyo Lady wins a Wyong trial on November 26
Race 2 - 2:10PM AUSTRALIAN COLLEGE OF PROFESSIONALS MAIDEN (1300 METRES) |
---|
6. Simply Just started solid enough in the market at debut and held on after leading to run second over this trip. Has to be better for it and drawn to find a spot either in front or on the pace. Should be hard to run down.
Dangers: 8. California Waves has the blinkers back on after running third in the same race at Newcastle. He held his ground there but looms as a major threat if the shades on adds something. 5. Storm Heart trialled a couple of times mid-year then reappeared just over a week ago finding the line okay at Canterbury in an 1100m heat. Pay to keep safe. 3. Greyt Thinker hasn’t raced since Anzac Day and that was after a year off the scene before it. Trialling strongly and market support would be significant.
How to play it: Simply Just WIN ($2.50 TAB Fixed Odds).
Simply Just runs second at Newcastle on December 1
Race 3 - 2:45PM HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY JANICE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600 METRES) |
---|
8. Better Breakout was left a bit flat footed when they sprinted second-up at Newcastle but found the line like a horse looking for this sort of trip. If he can take advantage of the soft gate he should have his chance to be right in the finish.
Dangers: 9. California Secret has a wide gate to overcome but showed improvement third-up two weeks ago when a drifter in the market. Blinkers go on and with some luck he could be a player. 1. The Beast has the shades on first time and coming back to the mile after a battling effort at Canterbury might suit. Placed in previous two starts so entitled to another chance. 15. Creditor appreciated the rise in trip when a much improved fourth over this course last week. Some hope if he can back up that effort.
How to play it: Better Breakout WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).
Better Breakout runs fourth at Newcastle on December 1
Race 4 - 3:20PM BAYGREEN PROVINCIAL BM64 HANDICAP (1500 METRES) |
---|
1. Prince Of Sorts handled the rise to 1400m in his stride with an all the way win at Newcastle third-up from a break. Wouldn’t think a touch further will be any problem and he’s only up marginally in weight after the claim. Sure to be competitive again.
Dangers: 2. Powerful Dragon has struck form with successive country wins in November and has the blinkers on now for a tougher test. Hard to fault and 2.5kg weight drop is handy. Definite chance. 5. Mahogany Girl won nicely here three runs back and just seemed to battle at the mile two weeks ago. Honest mare and well worth another look. 4. Without You beat Mahorgany Girl two runs back then disappointed at Wyong. Also capable of bouncing back.
How to play it: Prince Of Sorts WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds).
Prince Of Sorts wins at Newcastle on November 27
Race 5 - 3:55PM MAHONEY GROUP ELECTRICAL BM 64 HANDICAP (1800 METRES) |
---|
1. Subarctic is up sharply in the weights but was too strong in a Benchmark 68 at Newcastle two weeks ago when well supported at a similar trip. Draws nicely once again and only has to hold his form to prove hard to deny.
Dangers: 6. Like Lukey is coming through the grades well winning at Scone and Muswellbrook last month. Both by clear margins and has to be respected. 4. Heir Jordan is consistent without winning with three placings on end including a close call at Canterbury then a third in the Country Classic. Hard to leave out of contention. 7. Jessandi found her best to claim the Narromine Cup fourth-up and there’s no reason why she can’t hold her form and be a place chance at least.
How to play it: Subarctic WIN ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
Subarctic wins at Newcastle on December 1
Race 6 - 4:34PM AUSTRALIAN HORSE ARENAS C1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES) |
---|
3. First Mission did the job easily to break through at his third start when leading all the way here a couple of weeks ago. Extra 100m doesn’t appear to be an issue and he should roll to the front again and take some running down.
Dangers: 6. Hyperbolic started a solid favourite when breaking through at her fourth start at Newcastle. Appreciated the 1300m last time so a bit further should suit and looks the logical danger. 1. Wild Gypsy had some support at odds when resuming at Wyong last month. Fitter for it and open to some improvement. 2. Elle Hudson made a little ground first-up at Canterbury and he improved with each run last time in so expect he can figure in the placings.
How to play it: First Mission WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds).
First Mission wins at Hawkesbury on November 28
Race 7 - 5:09PM GODOLPHIN BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1000 METRES) |
---|
4. Perigean made a positive start with the new stable as he finished strongly to score first-up at Canberra over the 1000m. Lightly raced and drawn to get the right run again to put him in the finish of an open race.
Dangers: 2. Kiribati chased Pisanello home two starts back then a month between runs and disappointed at Canterbury last time. Find this a lot easier and capable of producing his best. 8. Lady Shenanigans always runs well at his home track as he’s done at his past couple. Backs up after a narrow defeat last week and has to be included. 6. Russian Assassin is a consistent type who was over two months between runs when placed at Gundagai last month. Each-way claims.
How to play it: Perigean WIN ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
Perigean wins at Canberra on November 24
