Comments by the Racing NSW Handicapping Panel following the release of weights for the $3 million The Star Doncaster Mile on Saturday, 7th April 2018.

"A total of 181 nominations have been weighted for the 153rd running of the Group 1-The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) to be staged on Day 1 of The Championships at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 7th April 2018.

Heading the weights is dual Group 1 winner Humidor (NZ), who has been allocated topweight of 58.0kg on a 50.0kg minimum (49.0kg for three-year-olds). Humidor (NZ) is the winner of the 2017 Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) and the 2017 Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) along with a close 2nd in the 2017 Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) behind champion mare Winx.

Next in line on 57.5kg is Le Romain - [pictured left], image by Bradley Photographers - a winner of three Group 1 races, the 2016 Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m), the 2016 Gr 1 Cantala Stakes (1600m) and the 2017 Gr 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

Also allocated on 57.5kg is dual Group 1 winner Tosen Stardom (Jpn), having won the 2017 Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) and the 2017 Gr 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m).

Happy Clapper has been allocated 57.0kg, the equivalent weight he carried to victory in the 2017 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m).

The Japanese mare Admire Lead (Jpn) is the highest weighted mare on 54.0kg. She is the winner of Tokyo’s 2017 Group 1 Victoria Mile (1600m) and was also placed in two Group 2 races in Japan in 2017.

The next highest weighted mare is Foxplay with 53.5kg, winner of the 2017 Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1600m).

Ace High heads the three-year-olds and will be asked to carry 53.0kg, as winner of the 2017 Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m), 2017 Gr 1 Champion Stakes (2000m) and the 2017 Gr 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m).

Heading the weights for the three-year-old fillies is Shoals with 50.5kg, winner of the 2017 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) defeating the older mares during the last spring carnival.

Alizee is another 3yo filly of note, weighted on 50.0kg and exempt from ballot for winning the 2017 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m)." A total of 65 entries have been allocated weight above the minimum.
