The biggest day of Group 1 racing in Sydney’s Spring including the prestigious $1.5 million TAB Epsom handicap over the world-famous Royal Randwick mile continues the Australian Turf Club’s growing $50 million Everest Carnival this Saturday.
Along with the $1.5 million TAB Epsom (a $500,000 prizemoney increase), the Group 1 $750,000 Heineken Metropolitan and Group 1 $750,000 Darley Flight Stakes are part of a huge 10-race program packed with racing highlights.
The Group 2 $500,000 ACY Securities Premiere Stakes includes three TAB Everest runners just two weeks out from the world’s richest race on turf, the $15 million TAB Everest.
The 100th running of the Group 2 $1 million Yulong Hill Stakes also sees a $500,000 prizemoney increase while the first races for the two-year-olds ultimately aiming for the iconic Longines Golden Slipper are run: the Group 3 $160,000 Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes and Group 3 $160,000 Arrowfield Breeders’ Plate.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, James Ross said Saturday’s card again featured Sydney’s world-class horses, jockeys and trainers: “This year’s Everest Carnival rises to another level and TAB Epsom Day features some of the highest quality of racing across the card of the entire spring," Mr Ross said.
“The strength of the fields in the TAB Epsom and Heineken Metropolitan are particularly pleasing and include ten individual Group 1 winners between them. The Darley Flight Stakes with 16 runners completes the Darley Princess Series, which has seen the highest number of total starters across the four legs in 10 years and an increase in average number of starters of almost 50 per cent."
