Sydney’s world-class $50 million Everest Carnival continues at Royal Randwick this Saturday with the running of the Group 1 $1 million Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes and a host of Group and pathway races to further Spring features.

The Group 1 $1 million Moët and Chandon Stakes over the 2000m for three-year-olds has attracted a strong field of 13 runners headlined by two star colts along with three fillies looking to further enhance the girls’ recent record in the race.

The Group 2 $300,000 Polytrack Roman Consul Stakes, Group 2 $250,000 Heineken 3 Stan Fox Stakes, Group 3 $200,000 The Nivison and Group 3 $160,000 Bentley Angst Stakes are part of a huge ten-race card of 140 entries.

The $500,000 Silver Eagle is a crucial pathway race to the $7.5 million XXXX Golden Eagle, with first, second and third placegetters from this Saturday’s race given automatic entry into the Rosehill Gardens feature on 30 October.

Saturday’s meeting run under strict COVID-Safe protocols comes just one week ahead of TAB Everest Day for the world’s richest race on turf and the return of 5000 spectators next week at Royal Randwick.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, James Ross said the fifth week of Sydney’s Everest Carnival continued to attract high-quality and large sized fields.

“Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day marks the midpoint of the Everest Carnival and continues to grow as one of the signature meetings of the Sydney Spring,’’ Mr Ross said.

“Along with a strong crop of staying three-year-old colts it is pleasing to see a Group 1 winning filly in Never Been Kissed back up from the Darley Flight Stakes like Montefilia did last year in winning both races.

“The support card features a host of high-quality races containing future stars and the Silver Eagle is a great renewal with a number of promising four-year-olds on the pathway to the XXXX Golden Eagle.’’

Glamour colt Profondo for Warwick Farm trainer Richard Litt and jockey Robbie Dolan has opened a $3.10 TAB favourite ahead of the Chris Waller-trained and James McDonald ridden colt Head Of State ($4.60).

Last week’s Group 1 Darley Flight Stakes-winning filly Never Been Kissed for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and jockey Regan Bayliss is $4.60-$4.80 with TAB. She is aiming to be the fourth filly in the past six years to beat the boys and would also emulate last year’s Flight/Spring Champion Stakes winner Montefilia in taking out the double.

Two other fillies are in Saturday’s field – Chill for trainer Anthony Cummings and jockey Alysha Collett ($15-$16 TAB) and Bulloo trained in Queensland by Stuart Kendrick and ridden by Rachel King ($26).

A runner trained by David Payne – himself looking to win a third Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes in just five years – has been backed at long odds in early betting (French Emperor $51-$26) with jockey Tim Clark aboard.

Godolphin’s Paulele – a leading chance to run in next week’s $15 million TAB Everest – is a $2.30 TAB favourite in the Group 2 $300,000 Polytrack Roman Consul Stakes for trainer James Cummings and champion jockey James McDonald.

The $500,000 Silver Eagle has attracted a capacity field of 14 runners plus an emergency and features one of the day’s widest open betting races. At $5.50 Count De Rupee for last week’s dual Group 1 winning jockey Regan Bayliss and trainers Robert and Luke Price is favourite, ahead of a $6 TAB chance in Ellsberg for trainers Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou and jockey Josh Parr.

Saturday’s Royal Randwick meeting continues to be run under strict COVID-Safe protocols, and remains closed to spectators.
