A total of 83 nominations have been weighed for the 154th running of The TAB (Group 1) Epsom Handicap (1600m) to be staged at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 5th October 2019.
This year’s edition of the The TAB (Group 1) Epsom Handicap (1600m) will be run with a 50.0kg minimum weight and a 48.0kg minimum weight for 3-year olds with a total prizemoney purse of $1,000,000.
The honour of topweight has been given to 118-rated gelding Happy Clapper with 59.5kg. Happy Clapper is a multiple Group 1 winner of the 2017 (Group 1) Epsom Handicap (1600m) carrying 57.0kg, the 2018 Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), and the 2018 Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) carrying 57.0kg to victory.
Next in line on 58.5kg is Hartnell (GB), a winner of four Group 1 races, the 2015 Group 1 THE BMW (2400m), the 2016 Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m), the 2018 Group 1 C F Orr Stakes (1400m) and is the current 2018 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) winner carrying 57.0kg to victory.
Recent, Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) winner Dreamforce has been allocated 57.0kg. Dreamforce also ran 2nd in the 2019 Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) and was placed 3rd behind Champion mare Winx in the 2019 Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m).
Other notable nominations are the 2019 Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) winner and 2019 Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes winner (1600m) Samadoubt with 56.5kg. The 2018 Group 1 Cantala Stakes (1600m) winner Best of Days (GB) will carry 55.0kg.
The highest weighted mare is the 2019 Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) winner and 2019 Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) placegetter Invincible Gem with 52.5kg.
Dreamforce with 57.0kg is exempt from the ballot due to his win in the 2019 edition of the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m).
There are four 3-year olds nominated, Yourdeel (NZ), Just Thinkin’, Dawn Passage and Shotmaker; all have been allocated 48.0kg, the minimum weight for 3-year olds.
