By Geoff Newling Fickle Folly bobbed at the right time at Royal Randwick on Saturday to deliver a deserving metro win for her Tamworth trainer who has five runners at her home track today. Sue Grills cheered home four-year-old mare Fickle Folly when Robert Thompson, who was having just the one ride for the day, rode her strongly and grab the bob of the head to beat I Thought So by the barest of margins in the $100,000 E-Group Security Sprint (1000m). It was the daughter of Nicconi’s fifth career win and the $53,375 winner’s cheque took her prizemoney winnings to almost $160,000 from her 13 starts. Paul and Benita Frampton own and race the mare. After the win Sue Grills paid a special tribute to jockey Sophie Young, who rides the mare in all her work at Tamworth. “It was a good tough win, very exciting,” Sue Grills said. “What a great win with Fickle Folly, so happy with her. Big thanks to all my staff, I am lucky to have such a great team. Special mention to Sophie who rides her all her trackwork.” Sue Grills is not sure which race will be Fickle Folly’s next assignment but is sure of one thing: “It will be back in Sydney,” she said. “There is the Starlight Listed race over 1100m and there is also a benchmark 65 for her. We’ll see how she pulls up, give her a week to get over this trip.” While celebrating a metro win she has a busy day at today’s eight-race Tamworth meeting. She will start Murtalert, Bullet Power (R1), Not a Princess (R2), Moonlight Spy (R4) and Cool Prince (R5) and thinks Cool Prince might be her best chance. “He ran a nice race at Coona the other day,” she said of a Coonabarabran second to Hammond Lane in a benchmark 64 over 1400m. “He might have knocked up a little bit but he does look like my best chance.” He runs in the $20,000 FSDP Benchmark 59 Handicap (1400m) which also doubles as a Heat of the Rising Star series. Hyosik Lee, a Korean apprentice on loan to Sue for three months, who also rode a double at Coonabarabran last week, partners Cool Prince and they will go from barrier nine. Lee also claims 1.5kg.
