Golden Path To Iconic Golden Slipper Starts At Rosehill Gardens

The first horses and connections aiming for a start in the iconic $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper will be known at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday following the running of the $1 million Golden Gift for two-year-olds.

Saturday’s $580,000 in first prizemoney and $190,000 for second will see those runners entrenched in the order of prizemoney conditions for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds at Rosehill Gardens on 21 March next year.

The $1 million Golden Gift has been elevated in prizemoney as part of Sydney’s enhanced spring racing program and has attracted a full field, including runners from several of Australia’s most powerful stables.

Tanker – one of three runners from the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable – is the early $3.10 TAB favourite for jockey Ben Allen.

Blaze A Trail ($4.80 TAB) to be ridden by Tim Clark is one of four runners for former Longines Golden Slipper-winning trainers Peter and Paul Snowden.

The Bjorn Baker trained Malkovich for jockey Rachel King is on the third line of betting at $6 TAB, followed by the Jean Dubois, Goulburn trained See You Soon $8 TAB for jockey Jean Van Overmeire.

The Group 2 $500,000 Hyland Race Colours Hot Danish Stakes is the day’s second feature and one of several wide open betting races across the program.

Reelem In Ruby for Peter and Paul Snowden and jockey Tim Clark has opened a $4 TAB favourite, ahead of champion trainer Chris Waller’s Madam Rouge ($6 TAB) with jockey Martin Harley.

In the field of 13, eight other runners are between $10 and $12 with TAB.

Saturday’s nine-race card off the back of Sydney’s spectacular Everest Carnival received a total of 128 entries, including another capacity field of 18 runners and four emergencies for the fourth running of the $125,000 The Country Classic over 2000m.

The Country Classic is a four-year-olds and up set weights race open to all NSW and ACT country trained horses and has been embraced by trainers and connections.

Trainers from Canberra, Murwillumbah, Moruya, Wagga Wagga, Port Macquarie, Narromine, Goulburn, Coffs Harbour, Queanbeyan, Scone, Taree and Dubbo have accepted for the race.

Maid Of Ore ($2.25 TAB) is favourite for jockey Billy Owen and trainer Nick Olive, ahead of the Paul Messara galloper Emanuela ($5 TAB), ridden by Tommy Berry.

ATC Executive General Manager – Racing James Heddo said: “This Saturday’s racing brings to a conclusion one of Sydney’s greatest Spring Carnivals yet, with many highlights that will be enjoyed for years to come.

“We now pass the baton to Newcastle Jockey Club for the inaugural running of the $1 million ‘The Hunter’ on Saturday 16 November, and Illawarra Turf Club for the inaugural running of the $1 million ‘The Gong’ on Saturday 23 November.

“We wish both Clubs all the best for their premier events and thank Racing NSW for their wonderful support of Sydney and NSW racing.”

The Rosehill Gardens track was rated a Soft 5 on Thursday morning but is expected to continually improve with warm weather forecast over coming days.

A track report recorded on Thursday morning with Rosehill Gardens Racecourse Manager Shaun Patterson is available here.
