Global Glamour In Training For The Everest

By Brad Gray

Dual Group One-winner Global Glamour is back in the stables of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott being readied for a tilt at The Everest.

“She has returned in good order and we couldn’t be happy with the way she has strengthened and filled out,” Bott reported.

“She had a couple of weeks pre-training out at Muskoka Farm and has only been in the stable for about 10 days now so it’s still early days. She’ll do plenty of slow, steady work and we’ll build her up towards The Everest which is the main aim. We’ll finalise a programme as it gets closer to the date.

“It’s an incredibly concept and we’d very much love to be part of it. It’s hard to ignore the huge levels of prizemoney on offer. It’s life changing really.”

The daughter of Star Witness won both of her Group One races over the mile but is also a Group Two winner over 1200m, beating Foxplay in the Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick last campaign.

“She is a quality filly, a proven Group One performer and has come back a lot stronger this campaign. We’ll definitely keep her to the shorter trips early in her preparation to keep her fresh and sharp. She’ll be trained specifically for the sprints,” Bott said.

“She is built like a colt. She has always been a lovely strong filly and that’s probably why she has been a superior athlete – the physical strength she held over the other three-year-old fillies.”

The stable are yet to lock in a slot for Global Glamour, who is owned by nearly 40 women spread over seven different countries, but are hopeful that she’ll get her chance.

“There is a lot to happen between now and then. We’re optimistic but we don’t yet have anything set in stone. We’d like to secure a slot but there is a number of negotiations that need to take place. We’ll prepare the filly and allow the owners to try and secure a spot.”

It’s a similar scenario for the stable’s crack sprinting mare English who will be looking to transfer her autumn form to the spring.

“She is one of the best sprinting mares in the country and it took an absolute champion to run her down in the TJ Smith which I think will probably prove to be the best form for The Everest, run at weight for age conditions over 1200m at Randwick,” said Bott. “From our perspective she is a no brainer in terms of selection.”

If you needed another reason to revisit THAT Chautauqua win

The form of the one-time Golden Slipper runner-up tapered off at the backend of the autumn with Bott suggesting a number of tough runs on wet tracks finally caught up to her.

“She got struck with a few heavy tracks which wasn’t to her liking. You saw in The Galaxy she struggled in the heavy going and in the All Aged Stakes failed to show her acceleration. That 1400m race in heavy conditions probably took its toll towards the end of the campaign in taking the sprint out of her.”

Meanwhile, Bott confirmed that talented colt Evacuation, owned by Highgrove Stud, has left Tulloch Lodge and is currently in training with Wesley Ward in America.
