The Entertainment Grounds at Gosford plays host this Thursday to two Listed races with the running of the De Bortoli Wines Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) and Gosford Quarries Gold Cup (2100m).
Local trainer Kylie Gavenlock saddles up runners in both features, with her in-form Big Brown mare Wild About Her aiming for four wins on the trot in the feature staying event.
Being out of the AJC Oaks winning mare Once Were Wild, the step up to 2100m looks ideal and she gets in well at the minimum weight of 54kgs.
“It’s her first run over 2100m, but she is bred to stay and given us every indication the distance will suit her,” Gavenlock said.
“She’s done everything right this preparation and has earned this step up in class with nothing on her back.”
Wild About Her makes it three on end at Newcastle on December 26
Gavenlock also has a runner in the De Bortoli Wines Takeover Target Stakes with her nine-year-old Falvelon gelding Randiki set to resume.
Having competed in the same event last year, he comes into this year’s running on the back of some handy trials at Wyong and Gosford.
“He’s been a bit of a tricky horse but saying that he has won some nice races for us,” Gavenlock said.
“He’s maybe won a couple he probably shouldn’t have!”
Another local Angela Davies also has a strong hand in the sprinting feature with Clipper looking for three in a row on the back of recent Scone and Randwick victories.
The uber-consistent Beneteau mare has won six races and been placed on a further seven occasions from only 17 starts and also gets in well with the minimum 54kgs.
Other local trainers are well represented with Ken Parker’s Invicta in the Takeover Target, Neil Ward’s Emperor Arli in the Tooheys 3YO Maiden Handicap, and Gregory McFarlane’s It’s So Obvious gunning for back to back victories in the final race of the day.
With over $500,000 in prize money on offer it is set to be a competitive seven-race card. Gates open at 12pm with the first race scheduled for 1.25pm.
