Gary Harley's Late Mail (Wyong, Saturday)

By Gary Harley

Local trainers Kim Waugh, Damien Lane and Kristen Buchanan have bright prospects of taking out four of the seven races at Wyong on Saturday. Wyong Race Club is excited about hosting a Saturday meeting in the holiday period and the club has been rewarded with an attractive program.

Waugh - enjoying a run of success - will saddle up Mo The Great in race 4, Sleepwalker (race 5) and Ultimate Fancy (race 6). Mo The Great and Sleepwalker impressive last start winners on country tracks will be strongly fancied.

Lane is coming off a very successful 2017 and has four runners at the meeting; Oakfield Private (race 1), Oakfield Twilight (race 3), Cervinia (race 6) and Leogang (race 7) are the big fella’s quartet. Oakfield Pirate is the best of them.

Buchanan also has four acceptors: American Moments (race1), Neruda (race 2), Dual Escape (race 6) and Texas Tycoon (race 7). The promising Dual Escape has a great chance.

RACE 1 (RYAN’S METAL ROOFING MAIDEN, 1600M): Auerbach looks a class above these and should break through. He was run down by the smart Aqua D’ivina on this track on December 21 but this race is much easier. Temolie will be better for her debut fifth here and Road To Royalty has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 1 AUERBACH, 9 TEMOLIE, 7 ROAD TO ROYALTY

RACE 2 (2GO FAMILY DAY AT WRC SUNDAY JAN 28 MAIDEN, 1350M): The regally-bred Notting Hill was narrowly beaten on debut at Taree on Christmas Eve and she can atone here. The filly has the rails barrier and should box seat. This is a much tougher race but she will be fitter. The Exchequer was runner-up in a Newcastle Maiden last start and he has raced well on this track. Guangdong drops in class and has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 14 NOTTING HILL, 7 THE EXCHEQUER, 12 GUANGDONG

RACE 3 (PROCAB WIRELESS MAIDEN, 1200M): Oakfield Twilight was runner-up in a 900 metre Newcastle Maiden on Boxing Day and he will appreciate the extra trip. He is an on pacer and he had good trial form before he raced. Joy For Us has finished less than a length from the winner in her only two starts during the winter. She has had the benefit of two recent trials. Sekiyama was a close second when favourite at Kembla last start.
SELECTIONS: 6 OAKFIELD TWILIGHT, 12 JOY FOR US, 10 SEKIYAMA

RACE 4 (SHARP DS CENTRAL COAST CLASS 2, 1600M): Mo The Great always puts in as his record of 2 wins and 3 placings from 6 starts suggest. He chased a tearaway leader at Scone last week and won impressively over the mile. Mr Tickets has been narrowly beaten in his past two starts and the blinkers come off. Sea Sharp is capable of a big improvement here.
SELECTIONS: 1 MO THE GREAT, 2 MR TICKETS, 3 SEA SHARP

RACE 5 (LAKES PRINTERS BENCHMARK 69, 1350M): Sleepwalker bolted in at Taree a couple of weeks back and he has a soft draw. He races well on his home track where his two starts have resulted in a win and a third. Choice Harvest led all the way for an easy win two starts back on this track and he should lead. Sea Sharp drops in class and he has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 4 SLEEPWALKER, 6 CHOICE HARVEST, 2 SEA SHARP

RACE 6 (CANADIAN CLUB BENCHMARK 66, 1350M): Dual Escape is in good form and she will have a cosy run from the rails barrier. He was impressive in a first-up win at Port Macquarie in late November before a close fourth in a good race at Scone last start. Velocano has failed her last two at Randwick, however, her Gosford win three starts back was full of merit. Stradance races well here and is a bold front-runner.
SELECTIONS: 6 DUAL ESCAPE, 8 VELOCANO, 2 STRADANCE

RACE 7 (SEA FM CLASS 1, 1100M): Kettering is a progressive 3yo in form. He finished strongly to go down by a length at Gosford last start and two starts back he was runner-up to subsequent Randwick winner at Cessnock. Ballet Rose won impressively on debut at Hawkesbury recently and she will be hard to beat. Soul Revival bolted in with a Gosford Maiden last start.
SELECTIONS: 1 KETTERING, 5 BALLET ROSE, 3 SOUL REVIVAL
