Gary Harley's Late Mail For Wyong (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

Wyong trainers Damien Lane and Kristen Buchanan are expected to saddle up three favourites at the Wyong Race Club's eight race meeting on Thursday.

Lane has two early favourites in Buckin’ Rippa (TAB $2.70) in the Consulate Finance Maiden Plate (1100m) and Budhwar (TAB $3.20) in the Race To Shelly Beach Golf Club Benchmark 64 Handicap (1350m)

Buckin’ Rippa has not won a race in 21 starts but has been placed 9 times. He was beaten two lengths in a strong race on this track on June 3. This is a winnable race and he has Aaron Bullock and the rails barrier.

Budhwar was transferred to Lane in April and he has had three starts for the Wyong stable. He was a strong finishing second over 1100 metres at Gosford on Anzac day and he was narrowly beaten on this track on June 3. Jason Collett has the mount and he can handle wet or dry tracks.

Buchanan’s promising stayer Oakfield Cherokee (TAB $1.50) steps out in the Synergy FM Class 1 and Maiden Plate (2100m). The four-year-old New Zealand bred gelding was runner up over this trip on this track last start. He was narrowly beaten in a better field than this at Newcastle two starts back.
