Gary Harley’s Last Word – Wyong (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

The Godolphin stable won four races at Randwick and Newcastle last Saturday and both its runners at Wyong on Thursday have bright prospects. The famous royal blue colours will be carried by Siam in the Repelec–SAL-Electra Maiden (1200m) and by La Chatte in the Omni-Omega-Evolt Class 1 and Maiden Plate (2100m).

Corey Brown will ride Siam which resumes on the back of two nice recent Randwick trials. The colt was placed at Randwick, Kembla and Ballarat last prep and he is an on-pace runner drawn ideally. The 4yo mare La Chatte is a model of consistency with a win and five placings from nine starts. She bolted in over the Kembla 1600 last start and she steps up to 2100 metres on Thursday.

RACE 1 (GERARD LIGHTING MAIDEN, 1350m): Smooth Whiskey has been knocking on the door with two solid seconds this preparation. In both starts the 4yo has chased home promising Hawkes-trained gallopers Groundbreak and Renewal. He has a nice barrier and Shinn rides. Triumph Star has won two recent Rosehill trials and Hinchman was narrowly beaten at Hawkesbury last start. SELECTIONS: 4 SMOOTH WHISKEY, 6 TRIUMPH STAR, 2 HINCHMAN

RACE 2 (CABAC–HANECO–I.P.D. 3YO MAIDEN, 1600m): Aruba has been building up to a win with solid placings over the 1600 at Gosford and Wyong recently. He has a soft barrier and the in-form Angland who has been aboard the gelding in his past two starts retains the mount. Delos was only beaten a length at Canterbury last start and he is the likely leader. Lucky Louie is crying out for the mile and she did finish fourth behind She Will Reign in the Silver Slipper. SELECTIONS: 2 ARUBA, 3 DELOS, 7 LUCKY LOUIE

RACE 3 (REPELEC–SAL-ELECTRA MAIDEN, 1200m): Siam has been placed in three of his five starts and clearly has the best form. He was placed in a strong Randwick 2yo in April and he wasn’t far away behind Viridine at Rosehill in May. Siam resumes after two nice trials. So Bizarre was placed at Rosehill first-up and he appears the main threat. Red Zephyr was very heavily backed when he was slow away and a strong fifth on this track first-up. SELECTIONS: 3 SIAM, 6 SO BIZARRE, 8 RED ZEPHYR

RACE 4 (L&C IND/PAK-PRYSMIAN-DAVIS LEGEND MAIDEN, 1200m): Missybeel was gallant first-up when run down late by the Godolphin galloper Persia on this track on September 24. She had been travelling well before that debut run and she will give them something to chase. Brooke was only half a length behind Missybeel in her second start and she is a player. Iowa drops in class and she is a big watch here. SELECTIONS: 3 MISSYBEEL, 2 BROOKE, 12 IOWA

RACE 5 (CLIPSAL BY SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC CL 2, 1200m): Oxford Magic tired first-up in a much stronger field than this and he subsequently won a Newcastle trial. He is a winner on this track and he has won second-up last prep. He will probably lead this field. Cinema Paradiso resumes on the back of a sound Gosford trial and he races well at Wyong. Prince Dylan was an easy Hawkesbury winner last start and he is a front-runner. SELECTIONS: 2 OXFORD MAGIC, 5 CINEMA PARDISO, 6 PRINCE DYLAN

RACE 6 (OMNI-OMEGA-EVOLT CL 1 & MAIDEN, 2100m): La Chatte broke through for a well-deserved victory at Kembla last start. She has always been thereabouts with five placings and Godolphin did run her in a Group 3 over 2000 metres in April. Tokyo King normally runs well in this class and he should run well. Dashing Special is a front-runner with a chance. SELECTIONS: 3 LA CHATTE, 1 TOKYO KING, 6 DASHING SPECIAL

RACE 7 (LEGRAND AUSTRALIA BM65, 1350m): Groundbreak could not have been more impressive than he was in an easy first-up win at Hawkesbury recently. Six weeks earlier he wasn’t beaten far in a strong Canterbury race. He did run second to Veranillo at Rosehill last November. Bright Future hasn’t been far away in metropolitan races this prep and the 2 kilogram claim helps. So Spirited a last start Canberra winner has a chance. SELECTIONS: 9 GROUNDBREAK, 1 BRIGHT FUTURE, 4 SO SPIRITED

RACE 8 (BRILLIANT LTG-KINGRAY-P.S.A. CL 2, 1600m): Laszlo is ready to win after a fast finishing third at Hawkesbury second-up. He was a Kembla winner before a spell and the ‘mile’ is ideal. Chavo will be fitter after a first-up fourth at Hawkesbury recently. Victime de L’amour also has claims. SELECTIONS: 4 LASZLO, 3 CHAVO, 1 VICTIME DE L’AMOUR
