Gary Harley's Last Word On Wyong (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

Three of Wyong’s leading trainers Kim Waugh, Damien Lane and Stephen Farley all have winning chances on their home track on Thursday.

Waugh only has the one starter, City Of Love ($3 on TAB fixed odds), in the opening event, the Tile Direct Maiden Plate (1600m). City Of Love was very unlucky two starts back at Newcastle and she is crying out for the ‘mile’.

Lane saddles up former Queenslander Captain's Legend ($4.40) in the USG Boral Class 1 + Maiden Plate (2100m). The gelding was an impressive last start winner at Hawkesbury after two Newcastle placings. Lane also has All But Gone ($6.50) in the 1600 metre Taubman’s Benchmark 64. If the track is rain-affected (currently a Soft 5 but rain about), All But Gone is a mudlark and can improve sharply.

Farley’s sole representative is Bryan’s Babe ($8) in the Hudson Homes Wyong Town Plate Class 4 (1350m). The mare is in good form finishing close-up at Newcastle in her past two starts.

RACE 1 (TILE DIRECT MAIDEN PLATE, 1600M): City Of Love races well on the home track and she is ready to win. The mare was very unlucky two starts back at Newcastle and she ran on well over 1400 on the same track last start. She is crying out for the ‘mile’ and Avdulla rides. Everlasting Love ($2.30 favourite) has been placed in two of three starts here and she has drawn well. Devil’s Luck ($3.50) had no luck in the straight last start at Kembla.
SELECTIONS: 4 CITY OF LOVE, 5 EVERLASTING LOVE, 1 DEVIL’S LUCK

RACE 2 (WINNING APPLIANCES MAIDEN, 1350M): Devil’s Luck ($3.50 fav) is a dual acceptor but this race is inferior to the first race. He couldn’t get clear in the straight last start at Kembla and he was luckless two starts back at Newcastle. Heloise ($3.70) was disappointing on debut at Hawkesbury but expect a big improvement here. El Coyote ($4.60) has been placed in his past two starts.SELECTIONS: 3 DEVIL’S LUCK, 6 HELOISE, 2 EL COYOTE

RACE 3 (RINNAI MAIDEN, 1100M): Archedemus ($3.90 eq fav) was an odds-on favourite when narrowly beaten at Kembla first-up on Melbourne Cup Day. He was crowded at the 600m and his jockey protested unsuccessfully. He has speed and Avdulla rides. Baanone ($4) has been trialing okay and he was placed at Warwick Farm in May. Mulberry Walk ($3.90 eq fav) hasn’t produced her good trial form on raceday as yet but she resumes here after an easy trial win.
SELECTIONS: 1 ARCHEDEMUS, 2 BAANONE, 6 MULBERRY WALK

RACE 4 (AUSTRAL BRICKS MAIDEN PLATE, 1000M): Enjoy Elsie ($2.60 fav) won a recent Rosehill trial by more than eight lengths. She is a speedy filly but she was slow out when placed at Hawkesbury in her only start in August. Ballad ($3.70) is trialling well and she has drawn well. The filly is a big threat. The Runner ($6) is on debut after two close seconds in trials.
SELECTIONS: 7 ENJOY ELSIE, 6 BALLAD, 4 THE RUNNER

RACE 5 (USG BORAL CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE, 2100M): Captain’s Legend followed up two strong Newcastle placings with a dominant Hawkesbury win last start. This field is not as strong and he won’t be far from the lead from this barrier. Jazzland ($4) was beaten by a smart filly when runner-up at Newcastle last start. Both his runs this prep have been full of merit. Lutreola ($9) is a recent Newcastle winner and he has raced well here.
SELECTIONS: 1 CAPTAIN’S LEGEND, 5 JAZZLAND, 3 LUTREOLA

RACE 6 (TAUBMANS BENCHMARK 64, 1600M): Smiling Manolito ($4 fav) is a front-runner which resumed with an easy Newcastle win on November 3. He was run down late at Kembla last start; always puts in and the shorter straight is in his favour. Saving ($4.20) was a surprise winner at Newcastle on debut recently and he put them away late. If the track is rain-affected, All But Gone is a mudlark.
SELECTIONS: 2 SMILING MANOLITO, 5 SAVING, 3 ALL BUT GONE

RACE 7 (HUDSON HOMES TOWN PLATE CLASS 4, 1350M): Bryan’s Babe is knocking on the door and she will love the extra trip. The mare was close up in her past three starts at Newcastle and she was doing her best late in all three starts. Excelling ($2.30 fav) wasn’t beaten far at Canterbury last start after his saddle slipped. Dawn Raid ($4) will be fitter for the first-up run.
SELECTIONS: 6 BRYAN’S BABE, 2 EXCELLING, 1 DAWN RAID

RACE 8 (WIDELINE CLASS 1, 1350M): Kaecilius ($4) resumes after a Kembla win and two metropolitan placings during the winter. He has had a recent trial and he is an on-pacer. Avdulla is a significant booking and he was placed at Warwick Farm first-up last prep. Ragazze ($2.60 fav) bolted in on debut at Kembla in October then was runner-up on a heavy track at Kembla last start. Leardo ($8) won well at Kembla on a heavy track last start and he survived a protest.
SELECTIONS: 1 KAECILIUS, 5 RAGAZZE, 4 LEARDO
