Gary Harley's Last Word On Wyong (Friday)

By Gary Harley

Local trainer Tracey Bartley has booked top jockey Jason Collett to ride his smart four-year-old So Bizarre in Friday's 1100m Northrop Consulting Engineers Plate at Wyong. The horse resumes from a 10-month spell on the back of a recent impressive trial. So Bizarre was less than a length behind Jack’s Bar in a recent Newcastle trial. The trial winner was placed at Gosford last Saturday and Cunningar Lass which finished behind So Bizarre, was a winner at Newcastle on Tuesday. So Bizarre was placed at Rosehill last prep and he should be too classy for his opponents on Friday. National Rugby League Identities Matt Thompson (Channel 9) and Yvonne Sampson (Fox Sports) are part-owners of Helsonic, early favourite for Friday's 1350m Bishop Collins Chartered Accountants Maiden. Helsonic is trained by Richard Freedman and she was held up in the home straight when beaten two lengths on debut at Gosford on July 19.

RACE 1 (HALEKULANI MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M): Locally-trained colt Nuclear Blast has been runner-up in his only two starts at Gosford. He was beaten a nose at Gosford on July 19 in a stronger race than this and will appreciate the longer trip on Friday. Veranes wasn’t far away at Warwick Farm first-up and she raced okay in a Group 3 in December. Sarzana was placed at Canterbury two starts back and she only has 53kg on her back.
SELECTIONS: 1 NUCLEAR BLAST, 12 VERANES, 11 SARZANA

RACE 2 (BISHOP COLLINS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS MAIDEN, 1350M): Helsonic should have finished closer on debut at Gosford recently and she will appreciate the longer trip. The mare was held up in the straight after being slowly away. This is a winnable race and her jockey will claim 2kg. Sun And Heir has been placed in five of his past six starts and is drawn to run well. Act Of Bravery has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 3 HELSONIC, 12 SUN AND HEIR, 1 ACT OF BRAVERY

RACE 3 (PATTY KENNEDY’S BOYS METRO & PROV MAIDEN, 1600M): Waiheke was only beaten a length on debut on this track on July 14. He had won a Warwick Farm trial prior to that run and the Kiwi bred four-year-old will appreciate the ‘mile’ on Friday. In Lighten Me was narrowly beaten at Kembla last start and will be hard to beat. Stage Pass is consistent and must be respected.
SELECTIONS: 1 WAIHEKE, 2 IN LIGHTEN ME, 11 STAGE PASS

RACE 4 (NORTHROP CONSULTING ENGINEERS MAIDEN PLATE, 1100M): So Bizarre resumes from a long spell on the back of an impressive trial. He was placed at Rosehill 10 months ago and he has been gelded since he last raced. The engagement of Collett is significant. Pretty Song ran on strong last start and she should be fitter second-up. Rosie’s Miracle made good ground last start.
SELECTIONS: 5 SO BIZARRE, 9 PRETTY SONG, 10 ROSIE’S MIRACLE

RACE 5 (WIDELINE WINDOWS & DOORS BENCHMARK 64, 1100M): Moccasin Miss is well placed in this field and she is ready to win after two runs from a spell. Earlier this year she was placed at Randwick and Warwick Farm and this is a huge drop in class. Texas Tycoon has had a freshen up and he was a huge winner at Newcastle in early June. Mr Grumpy tired first-up but he may take running down in this race.
SELECTIONS: 3 MOCCASIN MISS, 4 TEXAS TYCOON, 1 MR GRUMPY

RACE 6 (YOUR LOCAL CLUB BENCHMARK 65, 1350M): Spring Creek Star led to near the post on this track at the last meeting. He has drawn well again and if he leads he will be hard to run down. He has been runner-up in both starts on this track and deserves a win. Sparkly Star drops in class and he wasn’t far away at Randwick last start. Ondo Pasa was unlucky when second at Gosford last start.
SELECTIONS: 4 SPRING CREEK STAR, 1 SPARKLY STAR, 6 ONDO PASA

RACE 7 (BONYTHON TOWER CLASS 2, 1600M): The lightly-raced McMahon won on debut on this track in early June. He drops in class here after finishing midfield at Warwick Farm three weeks ago. The blinkers go on and the mile is ideal. Love Shack Baby was in need of the run first-up and he had good form last prep. Velocano went well enough last start to have a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 4 McMAHON, 3 LOVE SHACK BABY, 6 VELOCANO

RACE 8 (WESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER CLASS 1, 1200M): The Drake resumes on the back of two impressive trial wins. He has a soft draw and blinkers go on. He has the speed to lead and may be too classy. Joy For Us came from last to win first-up and she is a threat. Patron Black has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 2 THE DRAKE, 4 JOY FOR US, 7 PATRON BLACK
