Randwick Trials (17/10) Review By Ray Hickson It can be dangerous to over rate a 745m trial but youngsters don’t show the turn of foot unraced colt Old Harbour put on display at Randwick on Tuesday and not be handy. A $100,000 purchase, the Your Song colt is trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. He sat at least six wide and was being restrained by Tim Clark around the turn but when he balanced up he took off without really being asked and waved them all goodbye. First public trial and Gai generally gives them two so all eyes on him next time. Old Harbour's impressive trial win at Randwick In the following two-year-old heat a colt that cost 10 times more looked every bit the million dollars James Harron paid for him as King posted an all the way win. Also ridden by Clark, King showed rapid improvement from his first trial at Rosehill (but that can happen) to lead clearly and kick right away in slick time. Team Snowden of course trains King and they also prepare a handy looking filly called Sangita who must be ready to race now after two trials. The filly’s dam is a half-sister to Starspangledbanner and in this trial she settled well back before making sharp ground between horses to get very close to the winner. Grafton Cup winner Supply And Demand hasn’t changed a bit since his winter break, putting down the foot in his 1050m trial and really stringing out the opposition as he ran out a four length winner. The five-year-old has a handy fresh record, he was placed first-up at 1400m last prep, though tends to have two trials before racing. From the same trial Pelorus Jack would lose no admirers as he worked home quietly into fourth place. Though beaten 12 lengths he was last on the turn and that man Tim Clark just allowed him stride late. Pelorus Jack bumped into Wayanka first-up last time in off one trial then won three straight. Supply And Demand runs them off their feet, with Pelorus Jack in fourth. Unraced three-year-old Lucky Hada (Edward O'Rourke) ran the same time as Supply And Demand in winning his 1050m heat by a comfortable margin. He’s had two trials now this time in, following two back in the autumn, and if placed in a maiden he can be very competitive on debut. Godolphin had a large contingent at the trials and the efforts of Moher and Aisance are worth highlighting. Moher was obviously not ready when he resumed in the Premiere Stakes as a late nomination and he attacked the line impressively in his 1050m heat, picking up plenty of ground in the last 200m. Watch for him to improve sharply second-up around the 1400m mark. Aisance has only had two starts and was a close third to I Am Serious on debut. She was kept under a tight hold in behind the speed in her trial and took an inside run to go down by the bob of the head. And you wonder whether Morton’s Fork might be on a Villiers path, he had a very quiet trial and was just allowed to pick up a couple of length from the back at the end of his 745m gallop.
