Frolic has booked her spot in the Golden Slipper field after a clever ride down the outside fence from Tommy Berry to win the Group Two Riesling Stakes at Randwick.
She Will Reign jumped $1.40 favourite but Ben Melham told the large group of connections that she never really travelled in the heavy ground.
Frolic sweeps down the outside
“She has had a perfect preparation going into the Slipper and now that she has gained a start, she has a nice two weeks,” Michael Freedman said of Frolic.
“She can only do what she has done even though the conditions aren’t ideal today and a few will probably have hard luck stories because of the track.”
Tommy Berry alerted stewards prior to the race of his intentions to find the outside fence and his intuition paid dividends.

“I walked it today and it was noticeably better out wide,” said Berry.
“If you’re not going to go right out wide there is no point coming to the centre. It’s even across the board bar from three-four horses on the outside fence.
"As soon as I got on the ground she quickened. I didn’t pull the stick on her completely until I got out there as I wanted to keep her comfortable.”
Meanwhile, She Will Reign eased from $2.80 to $3.40 with TAB in the Golden Slipper but Melham nor Gary Portelli have lost faith.
“I thought she ran really well. It was just really testing conditions and I was never as confident today through the run. She made hard work of it,” Melham reported..
“If the track was a couple of grades better it is probably a different story.”
