ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST BET: Race 7 # 2 – MAGIC TIME
She was heavily backed last start in The Invitation (1400m) at Royal Randwick, and although having every chance, she was only second-up and tried hard in defeat. Further, that was a high-rating race with strong margins throughout, and the form has since been confirmed. The mare's last two third-up runs from previous campaigns have had merit, including winning the Group 1 All-Aged Stakes. She is a pattern horse, proven in all conditions, and set to peak with a ratings/sectional profile edge.
ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST VALUE: Race 9 # 9 – MIDNIGHT OPAL
He resumed as a gelding first-up at Warwick Farm and was specked late in the trade but had no luck at all. He got too far back in the run, but when building momentum, he was severely checked/blocked for most of the straight. The four-year-olds effort was much better than the form guide reads, and he historically improves sharply second-up. Additionally, he maps to be smothered away and brings very strong form lines for this event.
ROSEHILL GARDENS – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 4 # 6 – HIAWATHA
The Irish import has returned improved in his second Australian campaign, and he was honest in defeat first-up at Kembla Grange when running second. He wasn't suited to the sit/sprint race shape, gave away a fitness edge, but sprinted hard with Punter's Intelligence recording him running 11.05 between the 400m-200m and maintained a solid finishing speed to the line. The gelding can step off that and 2400m suits.
WYONG – PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 8 # 3 – DON’T DOUNT MERLIN
He was ultra-impressive first-up at Goulburn and has gone to a new level. The gelding travelled well but sprinted with style, and the clock backed up his late visual strength, clocking the meeting's fastest final 200m split. He has a strong SP profile, and his ratings/sectional profile suggests he can step again up in trip.
