Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 5 # 3 – FRONT PAGE

The gelding is looking to win the Kosciuszko three years in a row, and he carries the same weight as he has in the past two years. He brings an impressive fresh record and looks ready to sprint hard after a sharp recent trial where he clocked fast closing splits relative to the morning. First-up last prep, he was solid in defeat, running third in the Group 1 Galaxy (1100m) after leading up his rivals at a genuine speed to be just beaten. James McDonald rides, has multiple winning figures and he has options from the soft gate.

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 6 # 3 – SOUTHPORT TYCOON

Keen on him, and he was dynamic last start, producing a career peak figure with the blinkers on for the first time when winning the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m). The four-year-old had his momentum haltered numerous times throughout transit, but once clear, he wanted to savage the line with style. Further, he clocked the meeting's fastest final 200m split, and he'll be smothered away with the anticipated high-pressure event suiting him. With even luck, he'll be hard to hold out with his closing speed figure.

ROYAL RANDWICK – EVEREST PICK: Race 7 # 10 – TRAFFIC WARDEN

The three-year-olds profile well for this year's Everest, and he sets up well third-up and back to 1200m, which is ideal. From a ratings perspective, the Godolphin galloper has improved every run throughout his career and has the potential to step again. He handles all conditions, gets in with 53kg, and has the key attributes of adaptability/acceleration. Additionally, he handles all race shapes and can maintain a long-sustained sprint.

ROYAL RANDWICK – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 9 # 10 – FANGIRL

She had too much to do first-up in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) when flashing home to run third behind Via Sistina. The mare then was impressive second-up when overcoming the pace/bias, and she showed a sharp turn of foot/closing speed. Punters Intelligence recorded that she clocked the meeting's second-fastest final 200m split at 11.05 and went through the line full of energy. The Chris Waller-trained galloper won this race last year and follows the exact same pattern, and she is proven in fast-run races.
