First Steps To Longines Golden Slipper At Inglis Official 2yo Trials

The first steps toward Australian Turf Club’s iconic $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper will be taken at the Inglis Official 2YO Trials at Royal Randwick on Monday.

Nine heats – four for the fillies and five for the colts and geldings – will be run on the Kensington Track from 9.15am as the two-year-olds contest their first public trials ahead of two key early spring races.

Monday’s 2YO heats determine first starters in the Group 3 $160,000 Arrowfield Breeders’ Plate for the colts and geldings and the Group 3 $160,000 Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes for fillies at Royal Randwick on TAB Epsom Day, 3 October.

The morning will start with a Group class trial over 850m at 9am which includes TAB Everest favourite Nature Strip and Anthony Cummings’ classy mares Libertini and Mizzy.

A special breakfast presented by Bentley from 8.15am in the Chairman’s Club lounge has been sold out as many owners take the chance to see their horses in action for the first time.

The trials will also be broadcast live on SKY Thoroughbred Central with an enhanced coverage hosted by Greg Radley, Ron Dufficy and Lizzie Jelfs.

Full fields for the Inglis Official 2YO Trials

The spring pathway to the Group 1 $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper includes the $1 million Golden Gift at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 7 November. First acceptances for the 2021 $3.5 million Group 1 Longines Golden Slipper close on Tuesday, 6 October 2020.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager of Racing and Wagering, James Ross said the trials were a highlight of early spring in Sydney: “The Inglis Official 2YO Trials are a crucial step in a young horse’s path towards their first start and perhaps ultimately running in the iconic Longines Golden Slipper,” Mr Ross said.

“The horses on Monday will use the Theatre Of The Horse and go out to the barriers just like a raceday as they aim to qualify for the first Sydney two-year-old races of the season.”

Inglis General Manager of Bloodstock Sales and Marketing, Sebastian Hutch said: “Year after year we see top-class racehorses emerge from the first Inglis Official 2YO Trials in Sydney.

“Whether they are precocious horses or horses that mature to be elite older horses, it is always exciting to see what these trials have to offer each year. We are excited for our clients to see what next star might appear from the Inglis Official 2YO Trials on Monday.”
