The James Cummings-trained Exceeds got the better of odds on favourite Eden Roc in the opening race at Randwick, further franking the form of her debut race.
The Snitzel filly ran fourth behind From Within, Chauffeur and Invader, with the latter two running well in the Magic Millions while connections of From Within are still confident she has the makings of a top class two-year-old.
Exceeds produces plenty of late dash
“She had the race experience from one of Sydney’s best Saturday two-year-old races over the past few months. She was able to produce late like a really promising filly in the making,” Cummings said.
“There were some stylish colts in that race that we were able to get the better of them and it looks like she has got more in store.
“It might pave the way for a nice little fillies race in the coming months. There is a race I’ve got my eye on but she’s got up over 1000m there so I’ll have to keep thinking about it. She has got a bit of style about her and pretty of improvement still to come.”
Brenton Advulla was also taken by the win of the filly, before poring the praise on young Cummings.
“She was terrific today. I trialled her at Randwick and I was confident that she would go to the races and run well at Canterbury but she ran into a pretty smart one there,” Avdulla said.
“James is a master trainer. He took the blinkers off her, back in distance and she was a different horse. She still got a bit green with me but is nice filly going forward.
“Full credit goes to James. He hasn’t been in the training ranks for long but within the next five years he’ll be one of the leading trainers.”
