The cheers from the Central Coast could be heard at Royal Randwick when Bobbing came from near last to claim today’s $500,000 Polytrack Provincial Championships Final (1400m).
Coast Shelter is the beneficiary of $5000 courtesy of TAB after the Central Coast Express Advocate nominated it as its charity of choice in TAB’s 2019 Provincial Editors’ Challenge.
The Provincial Championships has generated huge interest right around the state and as such, newspaper editors were invited to ‘support their local horse’ leading up to today’s Final on Day 2 of The Championships.
TAB joined with The Championships to get behind each region’s horse and editors were asked to nominate a charity with $5000 heading to the winner’s respective charity.
Central Coast Express Advocate was the lucky newspaper to draw the Bernie Kelly-trained Bobbing ($7.50) who powered home under the guidance of Koby Jennings to land the major prize by a long neck.
Spring Charlie (Blake Shinn, $6) finished in second place a long head in advance of Chalmers (James McDonald, $19) in third position.
“I am so thrilled that Bobbing has won the [Polytrack] Provincial Championships Final at Royal Randwick today,” said Jessica Clement, editor of the Central Coast Express Advocate.
“And I am tickled pink for Coast Shelter, one of our community's most important charities who roll up their sleeves and assist the most vulnerable day in-day out.
“This organisation has provided crisis accommodation for more than 25 years.
“And our thanks also go to TAB and Racing NSW for introducing the TAB Editors’ Challenge, it is a fantastic initiative.”
