William Buick, Godolphin’s number one UK jockey, will ride at Rosehill over the next two weeks which includes Saturday week’s Golden Slipper meeting where he’ll partner Hartnell in the Group One Ranvet Stakes.
"It is one of the great privileges that goes with the job I have at Godolphin," Buick told the Godolphin website.
"I feel sorry for James (Doyle), who is still recovering from his fall, but I will be doing my best to ride winners while I am there.
"I am relying entirely on John O'Shea to pick the horses I ride, and where I will ride them.”
Buick will also ride Hauraki in what is shaping up to be a stellar George Ryder Stakes featuring Winx, Chautauqua and Le Romain, while he’ll also partner either Veranillo or Trekking in the Golden Slipper.
Buick, who successfully combined with Francis Of Assisi over the Melbourne spring, will fill the void of Doyle who is still in the sidelines nursing a fractured hand and knee injury sustained after falling from Pearls in the Triscay Stakes last month.
“One of the great things about the Godolphin team is that we can call on jockeys who have such wide international experience,” said John O’Shea.
“We’ve seen that both William and James are world class jockeys, they’ve come here before and fitted in straight away.
“William has ridden winners for the stable in Australia on a couple of previous visits. He’s always been able to make any adjustments without difficulty.”
Doyle is aiming to return to riding in the royal blue before Day 1 of The Championships on April 1.
“It’s a big disappointment not be riding at the Golden Slipper meeting, but the stable has several good prospects later in the autumn which I am aiming to be back for,” Doyle said.
“Unfortunately, the knee injury flared up and I’ll be seeing a specialist in Sydney this week.”
