Kembla Grange apprentice Brock Ryan will look to make a winning return to saddle on He’s Blessed for his boss Gwenda Markwell on his home track on Saturday.
Ryan broke his collar bone in a fall at Wellington in March and only returned to trackwork last week.
“It is a part of the job (falling) but it is good to be back,” Ryan said. “I was having a good run leading into it and I hoping to get back and start riding winners again.
”It is just good to be back riding and the doctor gave me the all clear to go back to the races. I only have a couple of rides but I think they are all right.”
He’s Blessed has been placed at both his starts and looks well placed in the Team Illawarra Maiden Plate. He was runner-up to Memes, a subsequent Hawkesbury winner, on debut and then ran third at Gosford.
“He has been going really well and it looks a good race for him,” Ryan said. “I think getting back to 1000m will probably be good for him.”
Later in the day, Ryan rides Midnight Ride and believes getting back on a firm track will help him.
“I won on him before I got hurt and it would be good to win on him again,” Ryan said.
