Brian Judd Elected As New NJC Chairman

Brian Judd has been elected as the new Chairman of Newcastle Jockey Club confirmed at the club’s December Board meeting on Thursday (21st December).

Judd’s appointment came following news that previous Chairman Geoff Barnett informed his fellow directors that he was not seeking re-election for another term after serving more than 12 years in that position. He will remain on as a director for at least the next 12 months.

Brian Judd - Newcastle Jockey Club's new Chairman

“Geoff has been an amazing support at the NJC and has seen so much progress during his time,” said NJC's Chief Executive Duane Dowell.

Mr Judd has been a prominent racing industry administrator, director and supporter for many years with a wealth of industry knowledge and experience, and is well known at our club having served as CEO from 1980 to 1990.

From 1998 to 2016 he held a number of positions with Racing NSW, the most notable being Chief Executive of Country Racing and Industry General Manager.

“Brian has an exceptional level of knowledge in racing and its administration to allow the club to continue to grow,” Dowell continued.

Judd was thankful to be supported by his fellow directors to take on the Chairman’s role.

“I’m grateful to be given this opportunity at a club I really enjoy being a part of.

"Newcastle Racecourse offers so much opportunity to the racing industry and the Newcastle area, so unlocking that potential will certainly continue to be a focus.”

The next race meeting scheduled at Newcastle Racecourse is the annual Boxing Day races with a big crowd expected. Ticketing and more information is available at www.newcastleracecourse.com.au
