Monday 10th February – BEAUMONT TRACK (Newcastle)

1. IDOL SHOT ($3.30 favourite on TAB) is a very honest mare who has been up for a while but bursting to win a second race. Was in and around the money in three starts progressing up to 2000m before just missing in tougher grade when tracking the speed at Taree 10 days ago. That form reads well for this class and again draws to get a lovely run just behind the speed. 8. Ana Carolina ($5) was only beaten narrowly at Canterbury two starts back and is the immediate threat. 11. Icon Dream ($5) has closed off strongly in her last two to beat all bar the winner and gets a timely rise in distance fourth-up. 10. Format ($13 into $3.90) is a lightly raced colt who can bounce back over further after dropping out second-up in a handy maiden on the course proper here when backed from $3.20 into $2.40. 4. Humpty Doo ($12) ran home well in that same maiden as the former when reloading off a six-week break and the extra trip also suits.

9. THE EYES HAVE IT ($2.15 fav) is a progressive home track filly who can finally break through after beating all but the winner in five of her six runs so far. Was close-up in a good maiden when resuming at Wyong before twice letting punters down as a hot favourite, the latest beaten out of sight after being backed from $1.45 into $1.30 when stewards or connections could find no reason for such a sub-standard run. 3. Aura ($3.70) is a mare by All Too Hard and a big market watch on debut for the Hawkes stable behind two improving trials. 5. Magical Elegance ($6) has produced two sound efforts to start her career and drawn to get a handy trail. Gap to the rest.

2. HAZE ($2.40 fav) is a talented three-year-old coming back significantly in trip, a month between runs with key gear changes including winkers coming off. Came from another postcode to miss narrowly at Dubbo before again hitting the line well at the Gold Coast before Christmas. Failed in a Class 1 here when pushed up to 1900m, missing the kick and then finding early trouble. Will be saved up for one final surge on the fresher side over this trip. 6. Highland Mirage ($3) is very fit and will be hard to hold out dropping sharply in weight from a low draw. 5. Fun In Texas ($13) is over the odds fifth-up under a light weight. 1. Eaglescliffe ($8) draws inside and is the best of the rest.

6. ATHENA'S TREASURE ($3.10 fav) is a lightly raced and progressive filly who can go back-to-back despite drawing the outside barrier. Charged home to win a handy maiden at Dubbo at only her second start and the second placed runner has since won at that track as a hot favourite. Leading jockey sticks carrying 1kg less and again should be given plenty of time back in the field and brought to the outside at the top of the straight. 3. Withstand ($5) gave nothing else a chance from the front two starts back before sticking on okay in similar company to this at Tamworth. 7. Ocean Proud ($7) is also gunning for two straight wins after a comfortable first-up strike at Grafton when defying a betting drift. 1. Calido Magic ($4.20) has been in the money in four of his last five starts and draws to get a charmed run behind the speed.

2. KIMBERELY MOON ($4.40 equal favourite) is a progressive country mare who can make it two straight wins in only her second prep. Impressed when sweeping home from midfield with something in hand to win at Gunnedah and while she rises to provincial level for the first time under a big weight, has oodles of scope. 1. Octavian Treasure ($5.50) has ability and will relish a significant drop in class fourth-up. 4. Unreachable ($4.40 eq fav) is right in the mix after hitting the line impressively at Scone second-up. 3. Steely Girl ($8) resumes from a nice gate behind two improving trials. 5. Dolly Jayne ($7) from the inside draw and 7. Callie Cool ($7) reloading off a country Class 1 win both go through trifecta and first four plays.

11. PENSATIVA ($3.10) is a classy filly who can join the list of back-to-back winners on the day, deep into the preparation. Disappointed as a hot favourite two starts back at Muswellbrook when failing to handle heavy going before bouncing straight back on firmer ground at Gunnedah when ridden closer and charging away from the 400m. Drawn to get cover and is right up to this level. 6. Merchant Empire ($2.70 fav) was very ordinary first-up off a long break on the course proper here after being backed from $2.90 into $2.60 but naturally fitter over a bit more ground, he can rebound. 3. Lounerse ($9.50) represents each-way value with a significant jockey change. 2. Spats Pav Bowie ($12) is second-up with a senior rider back on and 4. Sidenay ($7.50) off a six-week freshen-up and winning trial, are both capable of running into the minor money.

3. FORMAL ($3.50) is a locally-trained three-year-old also well placed to make it two straight. Came off a moderate first-up run as a hot favorite to drive home best and land his maiden after doing early work from a wide gate. Gets a softer run this time behind the speed and these are very average. 2. Giving Delight ($3.40 fav) hasn't raced since mid-August but looked good running away with a Scone trial 19 days ago. 4. Climate Control ($4.40) is dropping significantly in quality with winkers being added and 5. Jo Jo Sun ($7.50) are the clear best of the rest.
