Three of the Australian Turf Club’s most prestigious Everest Carnival races have again received strong nominations ahead of the highly-anticipated Sydney spring.
Nominations have closed for three of Sydney’s feature Group 1 races – the $1.5 million TAB Epsom (1600m), $750,000 Heineken Metropolitan (2400m) and $750,000 Darley Flight Stakes (1600m).
Both the TAB Epsom and Darley Flight Stakes received significant prizemoney increases for 2021 — $500,000 and $250,000 respectively. A total of 90 horses were nominated for this year’s TAB Epsom and 85 horses in the Heineken Metropolitan.
The Darley Flight Stakes – the final leg of the Darley Princess Series – attracted 59 entries, including Saturday’s winner of the Darley Furious Stakes – Jamaea. The three Group 1 races will be run on a bumper card at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 2 October 2021.
ATC Executive General Manager of Racing and Wagering, James Ross said: “It is pleasing to see such quality and quantity across the feature races including outstanding quality nominations in the TAB Epsom which supports the continued focus by both Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club on the 1400-1600m program in this spring in Sydney.
“It is always encouraging to see so many of Australia and New Zealand’s biggest stables represented with significant numbers from leading stables including Chris Waller, Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and Hawkes Racing.
“The Sydney racing program continues to go from strength to strength each year with the addition of new races, enhanced prizemoney and bonus incentives to reward participation. This year’s extended Everest Carnival promises to be one of our most exciting with world-class racing and nearly $50 million in prizemoney on offer through September to November."
Weights for the two feature handicap races the TAB Epsom and Heineken Metropolitan will be released by Racing NSW on Monday 13 September.
