The Australian Turf Club Foundation has approved a further $200,996 in donations to a range of racing industry and charitable organisations in a fourth round of grants from the Club’s fundraising and donors.
A total of 15 organisations – from amongst more than 100 formal applications – will receive amounts ranging from $3,496 to $25,000.
The ATC Foundation was able to double the total amount in this latest round of grants thanks to the generosity of racehorse owner Mr Bon Ho, and the win of his horse Classique Legend in the 2020 TAB Everest.
Mr Ho had pledged five per cent of any prizemoney won from the world’s richest race on turf last October to the Foundation.
Along with this donation, contributions from ATC Members, collections at ATC racecourses, and the sale of merchandise and racing memorabilia such as saddle cloths have also raised funds for the Foundation.
The $200,966 announced today brings to a total of more than $500,000 raised and granted through the ATC Foundation.
ATC Foundation Chair Trish Egan said a range of thoroughbred racing industry and equestrian bodies, children’s charities, schools, mental health and disabled groups and homeless assistance programs would benefit.
“We are very pleased to have been able to double the amount of donations which will immediately flow to a wide range of deserving people and organisations across NSW,’’ Ms Egan said.
“The ATC Foundation again thanks and acknowledges the wonderful generosity of Mr Bon Ho, which will benefit not only this round of grants but more in the future.
“In determining the recipients of these grants, we also surveyed ATC Members and the Club’s staff to help decide where the money should be given and spread.
“The Australian Turf Club is proud of the role it plays as the principal thoroughbred racing Club in NSW for not only racing but also the communities in and around our racecourses.’’
