Appeal By Licensed Jockey Blake Shinn Concluded

Licensed jockey Blake Shinn lodged an appeal against penalty after being found guilty by Racing NSW Stewards under AR137(b) following his ride on Danzie in Race 4 (TAB Handicap, 1550m) at Canterbury Park Racecourse on Wednesday, 21 February 2018.

Following the Stewards inquiry, Mr Shinn was suspended for a period commencing on Saturday, 3 March 2018 and to expire on Saturday, 17 March 2018, on which day he may resume riding. This appeal was heard on Monday, 26 February at the office of Racing NSW commencing at 11am.

The Panel made the following orders:

  1. Finding of guilt for breach of AR 137(b) confirmed;
  2. Appeal against severity of penalty allowed;
  3. In lieu of a two weeks’ suspension, a penalty of a seven-day suspension is imposed. Such suspension is to commence on 3 March, and expire on 10 March 2018, on which day the appellant may ride;
  4. Fine in the sum of $2,500 imposed, and
  5. Appeal deposit to be refunded.
