Group racing and one of the Australian Turf Club’s longest running race day partners combine at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday on Clubs NSW Western Metropolitan Region Race Day.
The Group 2 $200,000 Smithfield RSL Missile Stakes sees the return of star Godolphin mare Alizee who is heading towards a possible start in the world’s richest race on turf, the $14 million TAB Everest at Royal Randwick on 19 October.
Alizee – to be ridden by superstar jockey Hugh Bowman on Saturday – is a red hot $1.55 TAB favourite in the Smithfield RSL Missile Stakes as she aims for a ninth win at her 21st start and edges towards $2.5 million prizemoney.
Le Romain, trained by Kris Less and ridden by James McDonald, is the $3.90 TAB second favourite as the seven-year-old warrior looks to add to his $4.2 million in prizemoney.
Races at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday are named in partnership with some of Western Sydney’s biggest and most popular venues as Clubs NSW continues a 29-year association with the Australian Turf Club.
Smithfield RSL Club, Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club, St John’s Park Bowling Club, Campbelltown Catholic Club, Dooleys, Bankstown Sports Club, Cabra Bowls and Doltone House Marconi are all supporting races this Saturday.
Members of all of these clubs can gain free admission to Rosehill Gardens this Saturday by showing their current financial Membership card at the gates.
Saturday’s $140,000 Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club Rosebud for the three-year-olds is also a pathway to another feature race this Spring, the $1 million Group 1 De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose on 28 September at Rosehill Gardens.
The Chris Waller-trained filly Lucicello with jockey Tommy Berry is the early $3.60 TAB favourite, ahead of the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott colt Dawn Passage ($4.20), ridden by Tim Clark.
The Rosehill Gardens track was rated a Good 4 on Thursday.
