Berry Could Walk Away Unbeaten At Wyong (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

Tommy Berry only has four rides at Wyong on Thursday and all four have winning prospects. Berry kicks off the day aboard James Cummings's two-year-old colt Kattegat in the opening event, the www.tab.com.au Maiden 1100m. Kattegat was slow away when 1½ lengths from the winner on debut at Kembla and the longer trip is ideal.

In the Over The Line Racing Class 1 and Maiden Plate (2100m), Berry has the mount on John O’Shea's filly Killer Instinct. The three-year-old stepped up to 1800m at Kembla last start and she raced away for an easy win. The 2100 metres should not be a problem.

Berry was aboard Singing Sand when she finished strongly to win on this track last start and he rides the filly in the Great Northern On Tap fillies & Mares Class 2 (1350m). Singing Sand will be hard to beat again.

The Golden Slipper-winning jockey rounds off the day with the mount on Golden Hits in the final event, the Wyong Next Meeting Thursday June 20 Class 2 (1350m). The four-year-old drops in class after creditable runs in the city and he has his first start for the Freedman brothers.

RACE 1, WWW.TAB.COM.AU MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100M): Alert The Press has done most of his racing in Victoria where he has placed at Sandown and Werribee. He hasn’t raced since January when he finished a close second after racing in that position all the way. He won’t be far off the speed and Avdulla rides. Kattegat finished midfield on debut at Kembla where he ran on okay and he will appreciate the extra 100 metres. Skillet wasn’t far away at Canterbury earlier this year.
SELECTIONS: 1 ALERT THE PRESS, 5 KATTEGAT, 4 SKILLET

RACE 2, CANADIAN CLUB MAIDEN PLATE (1000M): Godolphin's Caesura resumes here on the back of a nice trial win at Hawkesbury. Her only two starts were at Kembla last winter where she finished midfield both times. The filly raced outside the leader in her recent trial win. Brazen Saint is on debut after a trial win when she pulled her way up three-wide outside the leader. Tell No Tales led all the way to win a recent Rosehill trial.
SELECTIONS: 2 CAESURA, 8 BRAZEN SAINT, 7 TELL NO TALES

RACE 3, WRC MEMBERSHIP ONLY $55 MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600M): High Flight has not won a race in 19 starts but this could be her race. The mare finished strongly when a close second at Scone on May 31. She is a backmarker and strong finisher and Jess Taylor has her second ride on the mare. Dominica Rose is first up after a quiet trial and she was placed in a much stronger race at Newcastle last prep. Whitney’s Star has placed in 6 of 19 starts and she wasn’t far away at Gosford last start.
SELECTIONS: 6 HIGH FLIGHT, 4 DOMINICA ROSE, 8 WHITNEY’S STAR

RACE 4, DE BORTOLI WINES MAIDEN PLATE (1350M): Hidden Hills has finished on the placegetters' heels in two starts this prep. He missed the start by two lengths when beaten less than three lengths last start at Newcastle. First up he was strong late when 1½ lengths from the winner at Wyong. Monterey had come from well back when runner-up at Muswellbrook first up and he has a 3 kilogram claim. I’m Kate trialled okay after tailing off early.
SELECTIONS: 3 HIDDEN HILLS, 4 MONTEREY LAD, 9 I’M KATE

RACE 5, OVER THE LINE RACING CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100M): Perfect Pitch has an adverse draw but she will be hard to beat with any luck. The filly has been placed in three Warwick Farm starts this prep and last start at Randwick she finished midfield behind Nobu at Randwick. Killer Instinct was an easy winner over 1800 at Hawkesbury last start and she looks like she will run this trip. Our Candidate was unlucky at Newcastle last start.
SELECTIONS: 10 PERFECT PITCH, 8 KILLER INSTINCT, 4 OUR CANDIDATE

RACE 6, FAREWELL WRC CHAIRMAN GARRY WHITAKER B/M 64 (1100M): Dame Kiri is a talented filly with a good record. She has had eight starts for three wins and five placings. The filly hasn’t raced for two months but was impressive in a Wyong trial on May 22. Corey Brown rides from a soft draw. Only Wanna Sing was stiff first up at Hawkesbury when beaten a nose after being held up. Siege Warfare is a former Victorian which was narrowly beaten first-up at Newcastle.
SELECTIONS: 4 DAME KIRI, 1 ONLY WANNA SING, 2 SIEGE WARFARE

RACE 7, GREAT NORTHERN ON TAP CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1350M): Romantic Whisper is a bold front runner with two wins and two placings this prep. She has led all the way in recent Randwick and Hawkesbury wins. Robbie Dolan claims 1½ kilograms and she will be hard to catch. Singing Sand came from well back to win on this track last start and she will be strong late. Joigny has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 1 ROMANTIC WHISPER, 2 SINGING SAND, 8 JOIGNY

RACE 8, WYONG NEXT MEETING THURSDAY JUNE 20 CLASS 2 (1350M): Golden Hits drops in class in his first run for the Freedman brothers. He has raced well in good metropolitan company in both starts this preparation. In September he was beaten less than half a length by Spring Charlie at Warwick Farm. Ruling Symbol bolted in at Newcastle last start and he will run well. Pinvincible led all the way to win at Hawkesbury on debut two months ago and he has trialled well recently.
SELECTIONS: 1 GOLDEN HITS, 4 RULING SYMBOL, 3 PINVINCIBLE
