Jockey Quotes - Silver Eagle

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $1,000,000 Silver Eagle (1300m) at Royal Randwick.

Blake Shinn (Ostraka) “It seems hard to make ground here today. Even though we were a little bit wide on speed, as opposed to going back, we thought we were better off being there than conceding a big start and making it too hard for him.

“He jumped well, two horses inside and he didn't jump the best. Tactical advantage, he had the speed from the gate and that's what won him the race.”

“I rode him in Queensland and he's a bit of an aggressive sort of horse, but he's really matured and developed.”

“Full credit to Annabel and Rob. He's turned into a really good racehorse now. As you say, he's versatile. He's won over short courses up to 1300 today. Look, who knows? They might press onto a Golden Eagle and I think he’ll make his presence felt.”

“He jumped better than the other two insiders. We made a call to be positive after about 50 metres.”

“Once he got the lead, he had a nice breather.”

“He really settled well today. He pricked his ears. I know it is going to be different in a Golden Eagle but the prizemoney is there on offer and it is a hard race to pass up with a horse like this.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Xidaki): “Good run first up. He will improve. He can run well in some nice races moving forward.”

Declan Bates (War Machine): “Solid run. Will be better over a touch further as well.”

James McDonald (Veight): “He copped a squeeze out of the gates and put us back in no man’s land. Finished well.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Bases Loaded): “He was never going to be suited at the distance but had a tough run.”

Tommy Berry (Moravia): “He is going really well. He has to relax a little better to run the 1500m out in a couple of weeks time. We’ll work with a bit of gear on him at home and go from there.”

Tyler Schiller (Rhythm Of Love): “I was happy with his effort. Thought he had a nice run in transit. Better suited to a bit softer going.”

Brenton Avdulla (Franz Josef): “He ran OK. Raced a bit fresh. Will improve a lot once he goes up in distance and bowls along on speed.”

Tom Sherry (Port Lockroy): “He has gone well. Finished off well.”

Zac Lloyd (Flying Trapeze): “Probably didn’t appreciate the soft going. Last 100m was good.”

Jason Collett (Kimochi): “Happy with that run. She has finished it off well late. Probably looking for a bit further now.’

Daniel Stackhouse (Stretan Angel): “She over-raced a little bit. Like the way she finished off.”
Regan Bayliss (Konasana): “She went super.”

Nash Rawiller (Well Timed): “Nothing went right for him. He might have a little break now and be worth following in the future.”
