Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $5,000,000 King Charles lll Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick.
Chad Schofield (Ceolwulf) “Yeah, just an amazing race. It was always going to be. Again, he didn’t step that well with me but I just let him find that rhythm. He travelled so well on the inside of Fangirl. I was going better than her at the 400m, I just had to wait for her to go and I came off her heels. He had so much work to do but again he just gave me that devastating turn of foot. And it’s probably a changing of the guard. He’s the new one. He’s a machine.”
“I was very confident in my horse. We know the stamina he’s got and we saw the turn of foot he has last start in the Epsom. It’s very rare for a horse to have both of those things, and he’s just the best tempered horse. He’s improving all the time too, which is scary.”
“Yeah, hopefully. I’ve got a long way to go in my career but it’s nice to have him.”
Ceolwulf wins the King Charles lll at Royal Randwick
Declan Bates (Pride Of Jenni): “Very proud of her. She has run a massive race. Disappointed not to get the win but she felt great, perhaps over the mile around here, she couldn’t quite kick away on them. She was strong through the line so next time if we get to 2000m next start, she will take some catching.”
Nash Rawiller (My Oberon): “He went super. Tough as nails. It was a good thrill. He really put it to them in the race. He is a horse you can see once he gets his tail up putting a few of these in a row.”
Zac Lloyd (Pericles): “He tried. Just too tough of a race for a horse that deep in his prep.”
Mark Zahra (Lion's Roar): “He was a bit outclassed today.”
Adam Hyeronimus (Major Beel): “The plan was to be a little bit cheeky and we were. The horse has gone really well. He has actually gone really well.”
Jason Collett (New Energy): “He was good through the line.”
Blake Shinn (Celestial Legend): “The horse ran a creditable race. Had a nice run and stayed on well.”
Jamie Kah (Tom Kitten): “Horse is going enormous. Draws a gate, he goes close.”
James McDonald (Fangirl): “I was proud of her efforts. She tried really hard. She just found that tempo very quick.”
Tommy Berry (Amelia's Jewel): “Another good run from her. I was on the back of the winner and Fangirl but they dropped me when they went at the 600m. Might be looking for a set of blinkers now to help her get through that flat patch that she hits. Still nice and strong to the line. She is going well.”
