Injured Rider Update - Andrew Adkins (Rosehill, Sat)

Andrew Adkins was dislodged in the home straight aboard Hot 'n' Hazy in race 1 at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday (25th July).

[Update on Friday 31st July]: Andrew has been transferred to the Orthopaedic Ward at Westmead Hospital. His chest tube has been removed and his breathing is improving. Andrew is starting to move his knee up and down and is in a boot to protect his tibia. The plan will be that he goes to Port Macquarie for rehabilitation next week; all going well.

[Update at 10am on Tuesday]: Dr. Duckworth reports that Andrew is recovering as well as can be expected. He will either have his chest drain removed today or tomorrow. Andrew will be sitting out of bed today and hopefully going to the Orthopaedic ward in the next few days.

[Update at 1:45pm on Monday]: Dr. Duckworth reports that Andrew is recovering well today. He still has a chest tube in for his pneumothorax and some ongoing pain from his rib fractures.

Andrew will stay in the high dependency ward for another few days and will then be transferred to the Orthopaedic ward. He will probably remain in hospital for the remainder of this week.

[Update at 2:45pm on Sunday]: Dr. Duckworth reports Andrew has just come out of surgery at Westmead Hospital and everything went well. He had a rod put in his tibia and a plate on his clavicle. He has also had a drain out in his chest due to a pneumothorax from his fractured ribs. Andrew will be going to a high dependency ward for the next 2 days and will have close monitoring over this period before he goes to the normal ward.

[Update at 9am on Sunday]: Dr. Duckworth reports that Andrew has also had scans of his chest showing 7 rib fractures and a pneumothorax which will need monitoring. Unfortunately, surgery was cancelled last night due to other emergencies. His surgery has been rescheduled for this morning.

[Update at 3pm on Saturday]: Dr. Duckwork reports Andrew Adkins has a fractured tibia and fibula that will be fixed with a nail either tonight or tomorrow. He also has a fractured clavicle that will require plate fixation.

[Update at 12:25pm]: Dr Duckworth has spoken to Andrew Adkins and reports that he is suffering from pain to his left leg, ribs and collarbone. Updates provided following x-rays at Westmead Hospital.
