Racing NSW often fields inquiries as to the whereabouts of certain jockeys currently sidelined due to injury. Following are the latest updates available:-
JAKE PRACEY-HOLMES - suffered a fall during trackwork at Gulgong on the morning of Saturday, 15th June 2019. Jake was treated at hospital for bruising and pain to his lower back and has been stood down from his riding engagements until he visits his GP on Tuesday (18th June), where he will require a clearance to ride again.
COREY BROWN - Racing NSW's Dr. Duckworth said Corey underwent spinal surgery following his fall in the Queensland Derby (Saturday, 8th June 2019). The jockey fractured his T7 vertebra that was stabilised with a plate and screws, and he flew back to Sydney on Thursday (13th June). Obviously, Corey will be out of action for some time.
MICHAEL HACKETT - was dislodged from his mount following an incident during Race 2 at Tomingley picnics on Saturday, 27th April 2019.
Update at 7pm on Friday, 14th June: Michael was discharged from Westmead Hospital on Wednesday (12th June). He has been transferred to Dubbo to continue rehab at Lourdes Hospital, close to his Parkes base.
Update at 2pm on Monday, 20th May: Racing NSW's Dr Duckworth reports that Michael is still at Liverpool Hospital awaiting to be transferred to Westmead for rehabilitation. Michael is awake most of the time and is talking but is still quite confused. His short term memory is poor and will just take time to improve. Michael recognises friends and family but is still a little drowsy. It will take many weeks for him to get over this injury.
Update at 4pm on Monday, 6 May: Michael Hackett continues to make small steps. He was more awake on Sunday night opening his eyes for 5 minutes and he spoke a few words. He has been a lot more sleepy today. It's just a waiting game now for him to slowly wake up.
KOBY JENNINGS - was involved in a trackwork incident at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, 12th June 2019. Koby sustained multiple fractures of the face including a fractured jaw and sinus. Racing NSW's Dr. Duckworth reports that Koby was discharged from hospital on Thursday (13th June). His facial fractures are undisplaced and won't require surgery but also has a wrist fracture that will be treated in a splint. Koby will be out of racing for six to eight weeks.
MICHAEL SQUIRES - was involved in a trackwork incident at Muswellbrook on Wednesday, 12th June 2019. Michael sustained a fractured wrist.
JOSH PARR - landed awkwardly after being dislodged after the winning post at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, 12th June 2019, when his mount shied on pulling up. Dr. Duckworth reports Josh suffered a medial ligament strain to his knee and will be reviewed by a specialist this week. He will be treated conservatively and won't require surgery.
DARRYL McLELLAN - was injured when his mount Magic Anna became fractious in the barriers prior to the start of Race 3 at Scone on Friday, 31st May 2019. Racing NSW Steward, Damien Carr, has since reported that Darryl had scans which revealed a fracture to his right ankle. He has had surgery and will be out for approximately three months.
KATH BELL-PITOMAC - was involved in a fall at Tamworth on Sunday, 10th March 2019. Kath was diagnosed with a diffuse axonal brain injury and has been struggling with fatigue and eyesight issues since her fall, but has been gradually improving. Kath saw her Neurologist for a six-week checkup and has been approved to resume driving locally and light activities with her physio. Hopefully, after a month of light activity, Kath will be able to commence more strenuous exercise/sport. Kath has another follow up appointment with her Neurologist in six weeks.
