Former South African jockey Heavelon Van Der Hoven, 30, is now riding freelance in NSW.

Van Der Hoven was sponsored by the Bjorn Baker stable the past three years and was restricted under Immigration Legislation to only ride for that stable.

However, that restriction him has been lifted and Heavelon can now ride freelance.

Heavelon has ridden Group 2 and 3 winners in South Africa also competed in Group 1 races there, having been educated at the South African Jockey Academy.
