Racing NSW Stewards yesterday issued a charge under AR129(2) against jockey James McDonald in respect to his ride on Threeood in Race 6 (Heineken 3 Handicap, 1200m) conducted at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 20 June 2020.

(2) A rider must take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that the rider’s horse is given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field.
The details of the charge being that licensed jockey James McDonald, the rider of Threeood in Race 6 (Heineken 3 Handicap, 1200m) at the Australian Turf Club race meeting conducted at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 20 June 2020, failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures on that mare throughout the said race to ensure that Threeood was given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible place in the field by reason of all or part of the following particulars;
1. That between approximately the 300m and 100m he rode his mount with insufficient purpose and vigour and failed to shift Threeood to the outside of Voila and Misteed to secure clear running, and
2. After shifting Threeood to the outside of Voila near the 100m to obtain clear running he rode Threeood with insufficient purpose and vigour over the final 100m.
The hearing of the charge is scheduled to be conducted at 2pm on Friday, 26 June 2020 at the offices of Racing NSW, Level 11, 51 Druitt Street, Sydney.
