Ten slots down. Two to go. Invincible Star will represent GPI Racing in The Everest.

“She has speed, x-factor and an unknown quality which could see her be a star over the spring,” said Andrew Williams, bloodstock agent and slot manager for Greg Ingham.

“We’ve been onto her for a while now as a racing broodmare prospect so we’ve always had an eye on her. She’s been one of our top picks from day dot.

“We’ve used a number of form analysts that have confirmed our own thoughts around her. The numbers she has run to date along with the potential to significantly improve on that make her a really exciting sprinter. She is an absolute machine of a mare when you see her in the flesh.”

Co-trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, who already have English in the $13 million feature for slot holder Damion Flower, have been outwardly bullish about how well Invincible Star is going. It was there for everybody to see in her two trials and they proved the clincher in the end.

“The trial at Warwick Farm was the one that made Greg and I really concentrate on her. Super Too is a speed machine. She comfortably sat behind her and Pierata was back in third,” he said.

“From her work in the mornings to her trials, she has been really impressive the whole way through. Adrian (Bott) was adamant this horse deserved a shot.”

It comes at the expense of Chautauqua, who ran in the GPI Racing slot last year with Ingham a part owner of the champion grey.

“Last year with Chautauqua we knew we were always going to be last at the 300m but this year we could potentially be first at the 300m and we’ll have to see what the outcome is thereafter,” said Williams.

“Chautauqua has always been an option, albeit a high risk one. Hopefully in his trial on Saturday he shows everybody else what we have seen from him at home.”

“We’re hopeful of Showtime winning the Memsie Stakes and putting himself on the radar of the ATC and Max Whitby. By us having Showtime and Chautauqua already in the stable, we’ve effectively added another horse to the team by partnering up. We’re hedging our bets to some extent,” said Williams.

“From a business point of view and the way the deal is structured, it is significantly better for GPI Racing. If we get Showtime and Chautauqua in the race, having two or three runners is better than one.”

Invincible Star, who ran a narrow second to globetrotter Merchant Navy as a three-year-old in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, will launch her Everest assault on Saturday week in the $150,000 G3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick setting up a clash with defending Everest champion Redzel. James McDonald is booked to ride the four-year-old mare first up but a jockey for The Everest is yet to be finalised.

“Greg and his wife Barbara couldn’t be more impressed with how Peter V’landys and Racing NSW have approached the concept and driven it to the public. The Everest is the talking point of the spring and we’re just thrilled to be involved again,” said Williams.
