Diversity The Fabric Of Golden Eagle Fashion

By Abby Delucyk

The Golden Eagle gives racegoers a chance to spread their wings and experience a multitude of cultures tied together with the anticipation of racing, all from the heart of Rosehill Gardens.

Sonia Sadiq Gandhi

With inclusivity at the forefront of the Golden Eagle on October 29, Sonia Sadiq Gandhi, owner of Gandhi Creations, captures the rich diversity of the Western Sydney community through her initiative ‘Fabrics Of Multicultural Australia’ (FOMA).

“FOMA drives social cohesion through making multicultural mainstream in a manner that there is no uncomfortable silence in wearing diverse clothing,’’ Sonia said.

“The Golden Eagle educates different cultures on how racing is so richly embedded into Australian culture all while allowing international cultures to reflect their customs and traditions in racewear.”

From the glamour and culture, Sonia captures perfectly how FOMA is sure to unlock a new generation of sustainable and diverse fashion all from the track.

The Australian Turf Club has collaborated with Fabrics Of Multicultural Australia to celebrate Western Sydney’s diversity through a spectacular fashion moment which features the best of Western Sydney’s multicultural talent in conjunction with a luxurious three-course meal.

This collaboration provides a platform for international designers to showcase their cultural works and shed light on their multicultural backgrounds.

Such designers include Maryam Oria, founder of Sakena the Label from Afghan, who says: “This collaboration is an amazing platform that aims to create a community that shares values of aesthetics, ethics and innovation.

“I’m looking forward to bringing a fusion of vintage and contemporary designs on the runway for the first time.”

Australian Chinese designer Tina Zhang also shares her thoughts on this collaboration.

“I am looking forward to showcasing my designs and seeing other emerging designers from culturally diverse backgrounds,” she said.

“My work reflects my personal experience and beliefs, which aim to depict a balance between western and eastern culture as well as both femininity and masculinity.”

With a focus on sustainability in fashion, Latin American designer Eliana Gamboa-Chapman and founder of My Paloma dedicates her craftmanship towards creating unique and sophisticated pieces that open our minds to new cultures and responsible collaborative practices.

Fabrics Of Multicultural Australia will be showcasing a diverse range of fashion at the Golden Eagle at Rosehill Gardens.

“I am delighted to collaborate with FOMA and ATC Golden Eagle Day Race to showcase a unique curation of exquisite pieces by leading sustainable luxury Latin American designers, who are underpinned by community and social purpose,” Eliana said.

Aside from the glitz of racewear, there is lots to explore and experience at Western Sydney's event of the year.

With the $10 million dollar race being the feature point of the day, keen racegoers can watch as the nation’s best 4YOs race for a chance to win $10 million, with 10% of the prize money earned by each horse going back to a nominated charity to support their efforts.

The cultural aspect of the Golden Eagle spills on into the hospitality where food trucks such as Greek Street and Caminito serve delicious bites which can be enjoyed trackside at Eats At The Garden.

Join in the chance to win $30k in cash and prizes at the Spring Fashion Stakes, as fashionistas flock to showcase their unique race day wear.

The party doesn’t stop after the last race with hit British band Rudimental performing a DJ set which is free for all racegoers to enjoy.

Don’t miss your opportunity to experience the thrills of Australia’s racing and join the party at Western Sydney’s premier event. Tickets available at theraces.com.au
